An inscopix miniaturized microscope! The lens is implanted in the brain, and the microscope images through the lens.

Several logistics prevent this. We also think the coating can be improved.

The Inscopix Discovery Lab collaborates with a Stanford team led by Eric A. Appel, resulting in a coating with slower virus release that increases the working time for surgical implantation.

A tale about academic & industry collaboration, and how it can help you achieve precise expression for in vivo calcium imaging:

It's 2019. Inscopix offers the only commercially available virus-coated GRIN lens. Neuroscientists are intrigued but ask us about using their unique viral construct. Hmm

🧠🔬Using long GRIN lenses and notice that cells look good in the middle, but vague on the sides? My lab developed corrected lenses, which increases the FOV and thus number of neurons recorded! Check out this new publication:

We used an Inscopix miniscope to image Ca2+ transients in the olfactory cortex (aPC), giving us a good yield of neurons. In slow feeding, we can identify neurons responding to food (Ensure), water and also non-selective feeding events. 3/n
