The Mini-Moke managed bigger production numbers in its Australian-built version than BMC's original UK model of the '60s. This 1975 brochure on what was by then called the Leyland Moke described it as 'the greatest happy-car carry-all around'. #weirdcarbs

After Moke production ended in Australia in 1981, tooling moved to Portugal. This leaflet is a reminder of the attempt by Dutton to reintroduce the Portuguese-built Moke Californian into Britain, again with little success. Austin Rover did, however, later sell some Mokes in continental Europe.

Moke sales in Britain had never amounted to much: BMC hoped for significant military orders, but was disappointed. Australian Mokes were regarded as commercial vehicles and bigger 13-inch wheels made them more suitable for local terrain. The Aussie model also proved a reasonable export success.

He had somewhere near Kingston or Teddington, I think, and made enough in one season to buy a brand new Mini Moke (although I presume his parents didn’t charge him rent at home). Not sure what was done in the winter, how profitable it was for the supplier or if this is still the operating model.
