Clover seems to exhibit extreme neoteny and brachycephaly. While the neoteny makes her look childish and cute the brachycephaly (short snout - persians, pugs) causes health problems. Most rabbits have narrow faces - people rail against round faced breeds.

Yep. Spirit of Neoteny, indeed.

On a side note, looks like our friend has confirmed her love of timeless stories.

there's more to life than neoteny

I was just about to comment on the VMO and Nerve 0! If I remember they say its left over from earlier times in our evolution, but children tend to have it then it regresses, so if increased human neoteny is true we could see it larger in adulthood

Met this dog on the beach. Lovely young pup, I thought. “How old I asked” “14” the owner replied “weeks?” No, years it turned out. You could see that once it stood up and walked. The neoteny is strong in this one. Someone should checkout its DNA.

I WISH I were that adept at wordplay.

I just meant a rehash of the Roger Taney Court, of Dred Scott fame. I KNOW I didn't attach the secondary meaning of "neoteny," because I had to look up that word once you posted it.

Damn. And I was an English major, too!

I see what you did there.

Neoteny…

I don’t think this is a serious concern if we’re just looking at faces, because for better or worse (western?) beauty standards have been locked in on high neoteny + sexual maturity at least since 1995 going by the Cunningham et al. paper from that year. Can’t set a trend that already exists.

Oh no
This is so bad
Now I can't help but notice that Yosha O.'s original head was, like, too big? Or is it just a case wherein the Neoteny does not look as appealing now that I made a smaller head?

Fuck, I can't look at the old version the same anymore ߹𖥦߹
Kind of wild but I think I like this version more?

I'd probably still have to adjust proportions and also make sure that it works though

Important changes beside hugeness: a bit buffer, a bit stockier too, squarer/triangulerer torso, street fighter hands and slightly bigger feet

NF is famed for his youthful pride that his initials matched the National Fronts, but here it appears they also match the words "Neoteny Forever" 🤔

It struck me earlier today that the reason I haven't really been that thrilled about the results of HRT is because what I actually want isn't really feminization, it's neoteny.

That's a lot of transactions between Jeffery Epstein's Southern Trust and Peter Thiel's Valar Ventures.

Also in regards to breeds like that, look up "neoteny". Essentially they're bred to never develop beyond a certain in-utero phase and aren't actually fit for life.

Axolotl and you will hear
the midnight swim of
neoteny.
Axe a lot and you will bear
the fortnight crawl of
loathe and fear.
Hack a bot and they will cheer
in daylight runs of
unfound seers
Of all that is seen
and unseen, seek
righteousness,
and beers

I know, right? I can't tell if we've aged super well or its like neoteny.

I didn’t realize the retina has PNN-like ECM components. Visual development also shifts through childhood toward more stable foveal-detail processing. Makes me wonder: if humans evolved extended neoteny, would that prolong global-dominant perception?

A much more—but still not entirely—accurate take is that the spread of Crusader obsession is an example of the far-right's neoteny.

So much of fundamentalist Christianity uses the Crusades to wow children, to make them feel important and strong, and that childish indulgence drives them as adults.
December 15, 2025 at 2:41 PM
Thats a good point - it can be used when describing the development or different body parts.

Neoteny is a great descriptor, however on bluesky I also want to step away from the jargon, so that it can be understood by the general public.
December 14, 2025 at 12:24 AM
Absolutely. Fun fact: dinosaur baby skeletons had the same kinds of neoteny morphology as most modern animals in their young. So cuteness is also extremely ancient.
