I know I need to read this, but I'm going to let npm completely removing token support and my nodemon deploys to start failing to actually get me off my arse to get around to it.

Stumbled onto @remysharp.com's blog and found out he also made nodemon. Why are so many of the nodemon sponsors casino sites though?

If anyone's interested in my workaround I've set up nodemon to call my build script whenever a source file changes, and a static site server to serve up the built files.

I have to manually refresh the page and don't get incremental builds, but it works 🤷

Curiously, with both `nodemon` and `onchange`, I’m getting (Node.js v24.7.0):

TypeError: fsevents·watch is not a function

What’s nice about these two shell commands is that they can be installed locally via npm.

I am doing Glitch-style project reloading with nodemon for local development. It took some hacking but it's working pretty well right now for similar style work with the project. Dunno if I'd recommend it atm, but good enough.

Workflow with Nodemon – Auto Restarting Node.js Apps
Every Node.js developer has been there – frantically hitting Ctrl+C and running node app.js for the hundredth time after making a small change to their code. If you’re setting up Node.js applications on servers or developing locally, you’ll quickly realize that manually restarting your app every time you make changes is about as fun as...

"overriden by user" lol. lmao, even.
anyway i fixed it. npm's prefix was changed for some reason bc the spectre of nodist haunts my machine like someone living in my goddamn walls. problem probably resolved tho bc reinstalling nodemon did overwrite the copy i moved there manually, so its all Fine.
July 26, 2025 at 1:27 PM
just physically moved the fucking nodist bin into the nvm one. i hate it here. but nodemon works which means im done here. i still dont know why npm wants to install global modules to nodist and not nvm, the thing i installed this npm through, but fuck man,,
July 26, 2025 at 1:20 PM
i can install nodemon locally in a project, which is - absolutely cooked. thats just cooked. it WORKS but by god
July 26, 2025 at 1:20 PM
i have NOT done it because now it wont reinstall fucking nodemon, and if i make it reinstall by giveing myself admin permissions, it reinstalls into a (new, otherwise empty) nodist folder, which al my projects are summarily Ignoring, soooooooooooooooooooooooo
July 26, 2025 at 1:10 PM
the nodemon worked fine on that port mere minutes ago soooooo

for hot reloading changes, the govuk prototype kit uses nodemon on the back end, and browsersync on the front end. Is this an old way to do it? I get the impression vite can do both but I'm not entirely sure from the docs.

For a person who grew up and around Auto-Saving Web Applications, a statement like, "nodemon is a tool that helps develop Node.js based applications by automatically restarting the node application when file changes in the directory are detected." likely takes on an entirely different meaning!
June 23, 2025 at 4:35 AM
We ended up having a conversation about that and various other things they were wondering about:

"does everyone just know that you have to save before nodemon will work? It says anytime the file changes."

"Whats the difference between dependencies and devdependencies?"
