Went to bone Dr. Ends up I have osteopenia not osteoporosis. Phew. Weird thing was she said my bone density was normal for a 54 yr old. Big yikes. This shouldn’t be normal.

But kept reading the ingredients because it said it was lactose free. They put lactade in it.

It also has 5 mg of boron which helps Vitamin D and Calcium in bone production for osteopenia and osteoporosis.

I looked online at Sam's, which I have my Premier shipped from. They have Fairfield...

Physios should absolutely know about this connection. Perimenopause is also linked to sarcopenia, osteopenia and frozen shoulder and many other common msk/inflam disorders. Women's health PTs like me typically know this, but all of us treat women and we should all know the basics.

For almost two years my insurance company has denied my doctor's request for medication to increase my bone density. I have osteopenia; I have to have osteoporosis before they will allow it. Hey, please break a hip bone first

I agree since I have osteopenia already and that’s the precursor to osteoporosis.

Amenorrhea (42.4%) was the most common presenting symptom and significantly associated with HRT use (P = 0.001). HRT uptake remained low despite diagnoses of osteopenia (6.8%) and osteoporosis (4.9%).

My bone density changes over that time is super interesting, as well. When I had a DXA scan in 2023, I was quite close to Osteopenia in my hips, having lost bone density on HRT. But, two years later—with a lot of heavy weightlifting—I now have well above average bone density.

Step-by-step guide to beating the Osteopenia Plague
More than three million Britons have osteoporosis, where fragile bones sharply increase the chances of serious, even life-threatening fractures. But far more are thought to be at risk.

They figure my osteopenia was from hormone imbalance since I'm post menopausal & was initially denied HRT. Lack of testosterone contributes to bone loss in both women & men. I'm in Canada so have to supplement Vit D too. I now take both estradiol & testostrone. Check everything before supplementing.

No idea! They found it by accident on a lung x-ray 🥹 I have osteopenia so possibly did it snowboarding. That's the only high impact thing I've done in the past few years that I can think of.

Not feeling any empathy for this assclown.

That said, he's only 60. If he fractured his femoral neck at 60, he probably has osteopenia or worse. He should have a bone density scan and take measures to improve density. Step 1 might be lay off the booze.

Unsolicited medical suggestion: my aunt is a professor of anatomy here in QLD and has developed a strength training programme for bone problems like osteoporosis & osteopenia - a bunch of physiotherapists around Australia offer it. It's called Onero & might be of interest!

Dx: I have osteopenia, which is a loss of bone density but not as severe as osteoporosis.

Now I know, I can do something about it.

But why are bone scans not rebatable under 70? Surely it's better to know as early as possible & prevent it worsening?

I'm lucky; I can afford it. Many can't.

I paid a visit to the family doctor the day before yesterday to get my annual physical. She put in an order for a Dexa scan of my bones. Well, yesterday morning, I got the scan done and later found out I have Osteopenia. Time to make changes to my health so my bones don't crack!

When you have a spinal disease and osteopenia, 'push out of the way' is much harder.

I'll take rain, thanks.
