OH WAIT when cyanoacrylate hits some plastics, does that mean it's dissolving or melting the plastic? I remember a particularly bad day involving shoelace aglets accidentally going west with some violence

i know i'm not supposed to be thinking about it too hard but that is one of theeeee problems with industrialization imo. it's not bad if we have a solution for it but recycling plastics is pretty hard, unless if amethyst there is more akin to glass, but originium???

Sustainability In Your Ear: The Ocean Conservancy's Dr. Erin Murphy Documents the Lethality of Ocean Plastics
Each year, over 11 million metric tons of plastic end up in the ocean, which is like dumping a garbage truck full of plastic every minute. For years, we’ve known that marine animals eat this debris, but no one had measured exactly how much plastic it takes to kill them. Dr. Erin Murphy, who leads ocean plastics research at the Ocean Conservancy, is the principal author of a major study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Her team analyzed more than 10,000 necropsies from 95 species of seabirds, sea turtles, and marine mammals worldwide. Earth911’s summary describes this critical study, which found lethal plastic thresholds that could change how we view the plastic crisis. The study measured how deadly different types of plastic are to sea life, which makes the results especially useful for policymakers. Each finding suggests a clear policy action, such as banning balloon releases like Florida has done, banning plastic bags as in California’s SB 54, or improving how fishing gear is marked and recovered. Still, Erin points out that focusing only on certain plastics is not enough. Her team found that even small amounts of any plastic can be dangerous. As she...

Under Canada’s Federal Plastics Registry (FPR), companies manufacturing, importing or selling plastics in Canada will now need to track and report detailed data on resin types, sources, and end-of-life outcomes.

Scales are plastics from Pindarave and TheRingLord, and anodized aluminum medium scales on the fingers from WeaveGotMaille. Resin claws are from DreamVisionCreations. Everything is hand knit and sewn by us!

These weigh ~1lb/arm, very light! The entire project took us ~14hrs to complete!

Agreed, but as long as plastics are made of oil, amongst lots of other chemical products, there will be need for continued oil production.
The producing countries will have to consolidate and some of them will stop producing when the price drops below a certain threshold.

Replace soy with high FODMAP foods, particularly onion & garlic, and yeah, right on for me.

Oh, and my doc insisted I not go vegan—staying pescatarian for the good oils but how to avoid micro plastics & mercury? 🫠

I just keep switching the offensive ingredients to pair with my spinach and kale.🤷‍♀️🫣

the main issue with biodegradable plastics is that they are meant not to degrade during use, but then to do so after

so maybe the solution is to look for a material that can easily be changed from the former to the latter via something it wouldn't normally undergo, like high heat or some chemical

Thank you! I use egg cartons but have always worried that they might contain eg micro plastics. Very reassuring.

The study warns these estimates are conservative.
Microplastics and chemical leaching were omitted.
The true drag on cognitive capacity is likely higher.
Plastics are not just pollution.
They are a direct attack on human performance.

We don’t learn lessons until it is too late.
Plastics in everything entering our bodies through our food.
What will people make of those massive data centres that are being built all over the place in 10,20 50 years time?
Hindsight is always easier I suppose.

It's #Inventors Day 💡
We honour Dean, our late founder of Core Sales Inc, and one of Canada’s early pioneers in compostable cups.
Before sustainability was a trend he was already challenging traditional plastics and pushing for better solutions.

it's still useable, i just get wary of having melted plastics near anything i ingest, so. i might just bite the cost of expensive outside coffee
