Town plans are always popular with enquirers and tour groups. We all like to see how a familiar place looked a century or two ago, and a single record yields so much information! This plan shows Ramsey in 1848. #PopularItem #Archive30 #ExploreYourArchive #ManxArchives

One of our most popular collections is D595 Inland Revenue: Derbyshire Valuation Offices. Whilst the title is not riveting, the collection contains maps and schedules giving extensive information about the owners and occupiers of land and property just prior to WW1.

This early 18th century herbal notebook is a very #PopularItem in our collection. It has cures for everything from hiccups to the plague (and the odd cake recipe too). It's also shrouded in mystery - who was the author?!

This is definitely a #PopularItem with staff, volunteers and visitors! The massive mammoth tooth which was discovered in Oxfordshire in the 1960s. It is hard to tell from this photo just how large it is but to give you some idea, it takes at least two hands to lift it.

Day 24 #Archive 30. Our most #PopularItem are the diaries of Kathleen Lynn kept between 1916 & her death in 1955, covering her political & medical careers 🥼 The diaries are in an unusual form, with very small, cramped handwriting, creating compact blocks of illegible text 🖋️

Our #PopularItem is C18th-19th Sun Fire Office policy registers! Fire was a real threat to property so many took out insurance against it. They weren't just insuring buildings either, here's a 1793 policy for Gilbert Pidcock who has insured a rhino. Yes, you read that correctly... 🦏 📖 #archives30
