b) ditto, but visiting tea rooms, as not everyone likes pubs and ...
c) I've been thinking a lot about those in the N and W of UK who end up with null lists or few plants, but are surrounded by ferns .... could we have a version of #NYPH which focusses solely on Pteridophytes, with ID Guides etc?

Might anyone be able to identify this plant, please? It is within James Petiver's Hortus Siccus Americanus, which was probably assembled around 1710. The label is hard to read, but includes the text 'ad: Mary[?] Rickson at ye Coffin in St Albans'

I live in a very mossy place so was ashamed to see that a couple of Pteridophytes was the nearest I could find on in phone photos album. Still … it’s a hell of a habitat!

Ahh, #FernFriday. What better way to remind myself that, although everything is now grey and sad, some day spring will return?

🌿This article not only expands our green palette of REE-rich species but also brings REE hyperaccumulators besides the well-studied populations in China and highlights the relevance of Pteridophytes as a source of hyperaccumulating species. (7/7)

excuse me but what the actual fuck? why does every book have different classifications for pteridophytes?? 🥹

This week I've been teaching about pteridophytes to the students from the Biology degree at University of Oviedo.

We discussed about how and why in our region we can find horsetails from northern Europe but also Macaronesian and tropical ferns.

Hi Miguel! Like Andy said, the large amount of propagules comes from pteridophytes, and we also discovered that larger spraints contain more richness. Additionally, larger spraints that contain a greater variety of prey also show more propagules.

I'm watching this now. I bought the field guide. It looks very good indeed. I like a well thought out key. I've used a lot of keys in my time as a phycologist! Painful at times.
Phycology was daunting but i got pretty good at it, so why are ferns proving so tricky still? 😄 #ferns #pteridophytes

Which species do you find struggle most with root disturbance? There's painfully little documentation on ferns when compared to flowering plants (native plants depends on the species, some also have very little info). Pteridophytes seem to be underappreciated except in certain niche circles.

This week we moved the lesson from pteridophytes to gymnosperms, starting with a short introduction about our native species and the last natural Pinus sylvestris forests in the Cantabrian Mountains.

Some Pteridophytes can be eat. And Pteridophytes often have fractal structure. For example, Matteuccia(ostrich fern), shown as page 1, has fractal structure, and their sprouts (shown as page 2) are often eaten in Japan in the early spring.
