Maybe their communities can be persuaded to turn them into rehabs in droves. Not saying I've thought through all the angles, but the respectabiity of such rehabs could be a way to drain off the madness.

Pets are more healing to the mind and body than many things. I'm an advocate for them being allowed in nursing homes, hospitals, rehab centers (both physical & addiction rehabs), anywhere ppl have broken spirits. My mom was an RN & saw improvement where she worked when pets were allowed.

I bet your students were happy. It’s tough when your parents get old. My Dad died when I was young, but my Mom had early onset Alzheimer’s. I took care of her until she died. She went to NH rehabs 4X (always short term) so I got good at picking places. I cared for her @ home when she’d recover.
I’m so thankful for everyone who reached out to me. It’s been so helpful. Yesterday I was so stressed, I forgot to give my students their homework.

I have felt this way about 12 step programs for a long time. Most sober folks close to me relapsed many times, because programs and rehabs keep one from closing the door for good on using and encourage handing over self responsibility.
