#rudebeckia
My dad grew up in a Swedish community (same town as Rudebeckia, I think!) and he started college with a Swedish accent…in English. Yust a minute, the rhythm etc. He lost it, but his radar for Swedes was uncanny.

Some stars aligned and a donor provided us with a beautiful ceramic pot at the same time that another wonderful person donated rudebeckia, flax, and round leaf alumroot -- all right before a fundraiser for the native garden.

🌱delightful Labor Day! Walked around the neighborhood, admired the flowers, and later, I canned my tomatoes. How was yours?

Throwing up my hands. Rabbits have decimated the echinacea and rudebeckia foliage. All the pepper spray and cayenne pepper did nothing to stop them.

Early evenings I like to check on the bees to look for the sleeping ones. I love seeing them sleeping safely upside down in my garden. 💛🖤#savethebees #nativeplants #bumblebees #north #garden

Yaa.. I think it might be a rudebeckia.. I thought it was such an interesting flower, that I forgot to make sure it had a tag when I bought it 😬🤦🏻‍♀️

We’ve been trying to convert our yard to aromatics & clover in hopes to eventually have a no-mow yard. Today I spared the echinacea and rudebeckia that escaped the flowerbeds and made their home in the lawn, so I’m slowly getting there 😝

Finally both cool enough and dry enough to mow and I wasn’t working overtime this weekend. And since it was me mowing and not the spousal unit, I saved the flowers & milkweed that are spreading into the lawn from an early death. Was also blessed to see the volunteer partridge pea blooming. 🦋🌱🌱

I removed most of the plants from my raised beds in anticipation of repainting the trim, and some curious visitors stopped by to check on the progress. 🌱 #birds #bloomingscrolling

I finished planting out just about all my seedlings from winter sowing today : Penstemon digitalis, P. Hirsutus, Arnoglossum plantagineum, boneset, rudebeckia fulgida sullivanti. But my Heliopolis I put out before was eaten by deer or rabbits. Oh well. Most other stuff thriving.

My most recent artwork.

Purple Sapphire x Pheasant x Rudebeckia.

Oil pastel, colored pencil, sharpie, ink pen, acrylic on canvas.

I have an art showing in the city tonight. Considering I live on a gravel road in the middle of nowhere, it’s kind of a big deal to me to be included. Wish me luck. 🍀

I’ve become partial to rudebeckia (black-eyed Susan). Maybe because their centers look like brownies.
