Rag Weaving (Sakiori)

www.instagram.com/p/DO0v1PMEkO...

Rag weaving is a plain-weave textile made by weaving strips of old or worn-out cloth into the weft.

This technique arose from the wisdom and ingenuity of people who lived largely self-sufficient lives and could not easily buy new goods.

Just realized I called this zanshori, it’s actually sakiori. Zanshori is when you tie small bits of yarn together and weave with it. Also very cool.

My latest weaving project, clasped weft on a Clover Sakiori loom. The process is very relaxing, and the fabric should be very soft, although I'm still adjusting to the new-to-me loom. #weaving #loom #craft #fiberarts #yarn #creativity #makingstuffastherapy

I started on a Schacht Cricket, a small rigid heddle loom. It's less versatile than a big floor loom, but much easier to use, and you can make lovely things on it. The loom that's arriving this weekend, a Clover Sakiori, is supposedly even easier to use than a rigid heddle.
