The entire album WYWH is about Syd Barrett - the 💎 referred to in SOYCD , it's his exploitation and alienation thats been mentioned (by Waters) by the greedy music industry & managers -profits over creativity.

David Gilmour was / is just an average blue based guitarist who tinkered around with some sonic experimentation with his guitar ...the lyrics, vision and concept was always s'body elses , something which all Gilmour solo records have missed all throughout

Who is the 💎 in SOYCD (WYWH) ? 'cos if you don't know this then you really don't know the story of #pinkfloyd and who's band it was at the beginning and who took over the reigns and who's being lamented, but you will always think that it was David Gilmour's band which it wasn't, not even a bit .

I've only listened to the new stereo mix of SOYCD so far. While it’s very cool to hear the whole piece without the break, and the transition is very well done, sonically it seems like the tapes have degraded. The top end is very soft and not super clean.

The title track is great and so is SOYCD, even if in the cold light of day it's five minutes too long. Have A Cigar and Welcome To The Machine are good but not quite top tier.

Great album for sure, but "which Floyd album is best" is one of those questions where the obvious answer is also correct.

EITS: Listened to more by them, TEINACDP is worth the hype, it's really beautiful I immediately loved it and it might have ended up as one of my all time fav records. The Rescue is nice too, like the backstory Sakura: Gorgeous ambient album PtP: Been waiting for Maruja's debut for a long time, they delivered, honestly arguably pioneering for post-rock TLS: Fun album to lighten your mood kyawk: another great debut LP WA: Incredible breaks album COTC: Been meaning to listen to Supertramp for a long time, great one, RIP Rick Davies Plone: love this kind of IDM albums Odesza: Great production, the guests+lyrics are hit or miss. News at 11: vaporwave classic, but it gets repetitive and tiring after a while London Juke: more good stuff from him, but he can do better Teenage Poetry: Been meaning to check it out for a long time and was looking forward to it, heard great stuff about it. Finally listened to it the other day and felt conflicted. It is powerful and I totally understand if it means something to someone, but there's so many things wrong with it, I don't have much space to explain, just read any critical review of it and you'll understand why this is a terribly unethical and pretentious album. Really disappointed and sucks because I really wanted to love it. WYWH: Can't believe this album is 50 years old, from the first moment I listened to it it blew my mind and still does to this day, there's just something about it I can't describe how I feel about it. For the longest time it was my #1 fav of all time and may still be, it's just that there was some worthy competition in recent years. SOYCD is the greatest song ever recorded. Takk: Happy 20th anniversary, forgot how beautiful this album is. Relistened to it and found translated lyrics (for the tracks that have actual lyrics and not "Vonlenska" their made up language) and it made me appreciate it more, grew on me a lot. CttE: Prog rock was the genre that got me into music, still one of my most fav genres, so of course I love Yes and this album specifically, there's something spiritual about it, it's completely out of this world. AFLP1: Feels like your last high school year's summer, where you get lost in thoughts about what happened, what didn't happen, what you're glad about, what you regret, the people you met and how they've shaped you. Reflects a specific period in my life SJ: The more I listen to AnCo, the more I get them and the more they hit KKB: Their best project prolly. When is their next album exactly? Imagine: has some duds but its worth it just for the great tracks alone. AFX: 19.09.14: Some of his best stuff, Collapse: eeh. PT: You can tell they're having fun Odesza: Nice nostalgic relic of a bygone era of electronic music 2814: it's fine but they've got better stuff.

DSOTM again is probably the better album as a whole, but Echoes on Meddle and SOYCD on WYWH both eclipse (heh) Dark Side, IMO

To be fair… that early on I think they were still planning on SOYCD being one side and YGBC and R&D as the other side of a single album.

Splitting SOYCD into two chunks was one of the greatest decisions they ever made.

Lots of others too but those always come to mind.
Only “Melt” was listed for PG and SOYCD for Floyd. Both bangers but not my favs of the catalogs.
