Caught another one! 😁 These little guys may look pretty but the invasive #spottedlanternfly is wreaking havoc on our forest’s ecosystem! The fairy force is taking responsibility of catching these cute buggers and deporting them back to their natural habitat in Jiangsu province.

Thanks to my fave podcasters ( @yrfatfriend.bsky.social @notalawyer.bsky.social & @michaelhobbes.bsky.social )I now recognize a moral panic when I see one. And wouldn’t you know it — one was crawling up my maple tree. #spottedlanternfly

My sunny wall is covered with #spottedLanternFly babies
Last year I looked into them too see what there preferred plants were and found that the unmaintained area behind my yard is filled with their favorite tree

I’ve decided to try and keep a running total of the #SpottedLanternflies I’ve killed for the year. People keep telling me I can’t make a difference this way, but I have to think it’s better than doing nothing.

Today: 116
Total since 4/30: 370+

They ALSO only have enough strength to properly JUMP once or twice, after that they don't go as far and get much slower. Chase 'em down!

As a person living in the county that was ground zero for these fuckers showing up in the States, I GREATLY appreciate seeing this kind of PSA. #spottedlanternfly

#SquishOnSight is the recommendation for this #InvasiveSpecies - #SpottedLanternfly larvae. Extremely destructive to agriculture and ecosystems. Spotted in Northern Virginia June 13, 2025. #InsectTuesday 😕

Since we're neck deep into #SpottedLanternFly season, I wanted to recommend my favorite trap for them.

The funnel net trap takes advantage of the way the bastards feed and corrals them into bags for easy clean up. Just put them on a sappy tree where you've seen them and go clean up the bags.
How to Build a Spotted Lanternfly Circle Trap
It is almost time to use traps to protect your trees from spotted lanternflies. Get ready now so you can trap lots of spotted lanternflies safely.

Morning! Break in the clouds, got my #flowers planted. First #photograph, though?

#SpottedLanternFly nymph. Don't like them a bit. Yes, their appearance is striking, but so is the harm they do our #muscadine #grapes. So I smoosh their non-native, #invasive asses. When I can, they're fast! #garden

I think we've reached a new stage in the life cycle of the spotted lantern fly. After a week of my deck being covered with them suddenly there's none. I suspect soon we'll see the flying ones #SpottedLanternFly

First time pinning a bug this century. I used to be good. Really good. I still hold the record for the largest and most extensive insect collection at my University. This is a #spottedlanternfly dorsal view. Male.

This is not a friend
Lycorma delicatula

Spotted lanternflys are invasive to Japan, South Korea, and the United States. They are detrimental to the environment.

This is one of my favorite paintings
