xie lian will sometimes catch wu ming’s ears flicking in response to stimuli, but it’s not as though they are particularly responsive

they don’t turn to listen to sounds more keenly and they don’t move to express emotion

they just kinda permanently sit at half mast

Thank you! If you'd like to know more before the article, check out visual pathways: magno, parvo and konio! Electric signals move through these pathways, responsive to different kinds of visual stimuli, from the retina to our visual processing centers. What we see literally shapes how we think!

Then there's Fen, whose metric is "can we reproduce yes/no" and the answer is technically yes because shapeshifting. He's annoyingly responsive to stimuli (pheromones being the most common culprit,) but acts on none of it because ✨️monogamy✨️ so he's just a horny celibate.
I would consider Urudu to be sliding around on the scale between a sex indifferent ace and a raging Fensexual. Mostly on the former end with a smattering of "I will allow this creature to sire my children" and actually being into it in the moment.

Then back to not giving a damn.

I'm Will Couper, that writer you've never heard of. I toil away, sending out horror, fantasy, and (rare) sci-fi. Mostly responsive to stimuli. I'll block bigots on sight.

6. We subset the Rspo2+ neurons into IEG+ clusters responsive to noxious or innocuous stimuli and found functional heterogeneity in this “(-)valence” cell-type.

We found new markers for nociceptive nuclei, eg Htr2a—a target of psychedelics that we're now exploring for analgesia

Thus the man who is responsive to artistic stimuli reacts to the reality of dreams as does the philosopher to the reality of existence; he observes closely, and he enjoys his observation: for it is out of these images that he interprets life, out of these processes that he trains himself for life.

Something about an intoxicated sub so lost in a state of blissful euphoria they're no longer responsive to anything but the roughest of stimuli. A shell of their sober self just begging to be used and taken advantage of.

There’s even a direct link between degree of response and degree of awareness. People whose nervous systems are more sensitive—responsive—to stimuli are also more aware, more able to imprint information from those stimuli.

a sensory neuron has a "receptive field": a patch of skin, area on the retina, or part of the cochlea it cares about, where it's responsive to stimuli.

when it's artificially stimulated (like with an electrode), the resulting percept will be localized to that receptive field.

Is a loss of reasoning skills - the more advanced dementia becomes, the less processing we are doing of our environment and the more we are simply responding to stimuli in the most familiar way in the moment.

As an aside, this is where the term "responsive behaviour" comes from.
