Essentially that's where the line of disruption falls. Hypertext fiction, StorySpace, and the compelling design manifesto of Ted Nelson including backlinks and multi-destination links, transclusion, and micropayments. Glorious plan fails in day one of implementation by out group.

It's brilliant to see donations coming in from this week's Story Space activities.

Thanks to all the staff, pupils, parents and carers who have been taking part in and supporting activities.

Can't wait to hear how you've been creating space for reading and sharing your love of books!

it's crazy how hypercard and storyspace were both made in 1987 and tbl hadn't even finished his prototype by the time adams made that documentary

Reimplementing the web doesn't sound like such a bad idea some days!

But going back to the original post, the issue there is the software (Storyspace) is not only obsolete but also proprietary, and the developer hasn't encouraged reverse-engineering it.

I'ma follow dotdave I like the pixels. Do you know pixelcad? There are a lot of pixelcad artists in that thing we don't discuss, similar aesthetic. I am a bit aware from class of the kinds of artists/technologists who make software for other artists, Casey Reas and Miller Puckett, Storyspace...

This autumn, many schools in the UK will be doing something amazing, creating a magical space for pupils to read for a day – and sharing their school’s love for books. All for a small donation of just £2.

That’s good to know. I believe the piece runs on Storyspace. I’m not sure what the replacement computer’s specs are, but it’s encouraging to know other systems can potentially be used🤞

i do not have a good mental inventory of pre-web hypermedia systems but i've used both hypercard and storyspace and my assessment is they are much *denser* than the web (at least out of the box)

I remember, and incidentally, storyspace was a wonderful scratchpad for organizing papers. I miss it...

This is very important. In our computing art histories, there are traditions of artists who use tools, artists who make their own tools, and artists who make tools for others (like Storyspace, Processing, PD etc...)

#writesky #cozyfantasy I've spent so much time with the cats in the city in storyspace that I haven't figured out what the camels' gossip is.

But look at these faces. These are very amused photocrashers with some kind of velvety-soft-nosed and hilarious story to tell...

Relatedly, I have spent *hours* trying to get Storyspace-authored hypertexts like Shelley Jackson's Patchwork Girl working in Wine, or even DOSBox, to no avail.

yeah stuff like scrivener and storyspace/tinderbox; those have been around for-eeeever, imo they kinda predate exchangeable structured data and while i'm sure they could be retrofitted my inclination would be to start clean

Searching the earth for the true necronomicon so I can finally enter storyspace and kill Frasier with an axe.

Argh! I used to maintain a 2009 Windows XP netbook purely to demo Storyspace works until I finally put together a Windows 2000 virtual machine on my system. Said netbook still runs too!
