this week on #Paleostream we sketched Guidraco, Dinosaurus, Eretmorhipis, and Protoichthyosaurus

i did finish last week's sketches but im too lazy to post them :P

on an overcast day, a dead Guidraco lays still at the edge of a lake, yellow Baeira leaves pile up at the edge of the shoreline, a cycad leaf has perforated it's lower jaw and may be the reason why the animal died Guidraco is a pterosaur known from Cretaceous China, it had long and thin interlocking teeth at the front of its mouth and a relatively long crest at the back of its head a Dinosaurus sniffs the camera moving up close showing its warty skin, a blurry sand dune can be seen in the background Dinosaurus (despite the name) is a kind of synapsid, which makes it closer related to mammals like us than dinosaurs, it is very unclear what Dinosaurus is related to as it is only known from a small snout fragment by the edge of a hypersaline lagoon in Triassic China that is now the Jialingjiang Formation, an Eretmorhipis swims past stromatolites while bulbous collections of evaporites cake the bottom of the shore. the animal's tall line of osteoderms break the waters surface and cause a few small waves to splash against the nearest stromatolites Eretmorhipis is a kind of marine reptile that was about the size of a small dog and was exclusively marine, not much is known about its ecology but it was most likely a sediment feeder, sifting through the bottom of its home for organic matter and animals to eat. it is unusual in having a skull almost convergent to platypi, and a tall row of osteoderms on its back despite being a fully marine animal a mother Protoichthyosaurus and her three pups are ambushed by a mated pair of female Temnodontosaurus from below. one of the Temnodontosaurus' back has breached the surface, its large body creating crashing waves. the mother Protoichthyosaurus' dorsal fin breaks the surface, creating a v-shaped wave as it attempts to escape the 10 metre long predators at her family's tail Protoichthyosaurus and Temnodontosaurus are ichthyosaurs, marine reptiles convergent on cetaceans in appearance, although they move side to side rather than up and down Protoichthyosaurus is a small dolphin-sized ichthyosaur that was a close relative of the famous Ichthyosaurus, ichthyosaurs were warm-blooded, scaleless marine reptiles that gave livebirth Temnodontosaurus is a large predatory ichthyosaur which may have lived in the same formation as Protoichthyosaurus, the largest Temnodontosaurus species are approximately 13 metres long

THALASSOMEDON 14m, Speed-2, Damage-2, Health-2, Agility-2 "It is slow moving and can swim with great stealth to sneak up on prey." The starting shitmon, honestly I'm surprised they didn't pick another plesiosaur like Elasmosaurus or Plesiosaurus, but ey I do love me some obscure genera. I guess this guy's a good starting mon, since he's absolutely useless and outclassed by almost everything else. The "stealth" mode apparently lets you get up close to prey and away from enemies more easily but Imma be real when I've played I havent noticed anything worth a damn. The idea of this absolute colossus being a ninja is really funny though, I know its supposed to be the "the head gets close and attacks fish before they see the giantass body" but the image is just absolute cinema. Sometimes I say the quote as a stim. HENODUS 2m, Speed-1, Damage-1, Health-1, Agility-2 "It is small enough that it can fit through small gaps that other monsters can't, it is able to dig in the sand and uses this skill to eat clams." THE even more useless one than Thalassomedon, but I like this guy, so I'm glad to see it here. Not much to say, get rid of this one and unlock the next in line fast. Honestly I'm just surprised they didn't make the Agility 1 as well. As a side note it's kinda funny how this guy's a clam-eater swimming in the ocean when now we know that it ate plants and was literally the only placodont to not live in the ocean. TEMNODONTOSAURUS 10m, Speed-4, Damage-2, Health-4, Agility-3 "It is a powerful swimmer that can descend to extreme depths to catch prey." Yeah the fact that this guy is fast and is the only one to not implode if you go over 20 feet below the surface makes it the default. This genus was kinda the one who led me on this rabbithole domino in the first place, first I figured out that Temnodontosaurus was the first ichthyosaur known to modern science but was filed under the "Ichthyosaurus" name and then one thing led to another. Anyways I felt like giving it a more reduced dorsal fin cause I dunno I don't really vibe with taller sharklike dorsals on the big boi ichthyosaurs.

Each animal's colors are largely accurate to their in-game selves, but their designs have been modified slightly to match modern science. Happy #FossilFriday Here is Temnodontosaurus trigonodon a genus of Ichthyosaur from the Early Jurassic of Europe. A notable feature of Temnodontosaurus was its incredibly large eyes the largest of any known vertebrate.

there are also a number of pathologies present in the specimen, such as a fractured clavicle, necrotic propodials, and malformed teeth - the cause of death appears to be a bite to the skull, possibly inflicted by a large temnodontosaurus
