Mark Metcalfe testified before the Undercover Policing Inquiry (UCPI) that he was targeted by C18 and that this targeting occurred with the collusion of the Metropolitan Police. The allegation is that a Special Demonstration Squad (SDS) officer, Mark Jenner (who used the alias "Mark Cassidy"), had access to Metcalfe's personal details and that these details, including his address, were shared with members of the far-right group. Metcalfe was a prominent anti-racist activist in groups such as Youth Against Racism in Europe and No Platform in the 1990s and 2000s. Police spying on anti-fascist and trade union activists was widespread, and it has been established that Special Branches nationwide illegally provided personal details of political activists to employers' blacklists. The police have generally maintained a position of "neither confirming nor denying" specific deployments and their activities for many years, but the inquiry is bringing such allegations to light.
