Today’s gratitude: that I have a job that allows me to be physically active and get outside at least once a day, and that I have the health and fitness to enjoy this 💚

Research has found that the popular children's toy squishmallows can provide beneficial lumbar support when sitting at a desk. We have invested in a few of these to trial with staff.

Really interesting thread & conversation around NPQs
First thought on NPQH - I’m not suggesting that to be a headteacher you need to be a solicitor or accountant, but you clearly need to know enough about (say) employment law to be effective and not cause your HR department (if you have one) lots of problems. This makes it interesting to…

I've follwed the UK Teaching feed.
Put #UKTeaching in your profile description and then a 🎓 in your posts (#UKTeaching and #UKEd also work if you prefer a hashtag).
Also, I agree about starter packs - not as many UK-based packs as I'd like. Keep thinking I should make my own

Small thread.

I think we could be making a lot more with secondments in teaching careers.

I think they'd be really welcomed by potential secondees and valuable to schools and Trusts. I know some Trusts (Greenshaw, Dixons, I'm sure others..) are doing interesting stuff here...

Well written blog post on building a culture of hard work.

The UK Teaching 🎓 feed (bsky.app/profile/stub...) is for all things educational in the UK, showing the last 7 days of #uked, #ukteaching and #ukteachers posts.

There's a UK Teaching 🎓 list (bsky.app/profile/stub...), too. Add yourself to that and you can post to the feed using just 🎓.

Great post on curriculum coherence across phases from Jon.

Getting collaborative work with feeders on subject curricula is challenging & ongoing: it has opportunity cost issues but the benefits of a small gain in coherence & cross phase understanding may be worth pursuing.
This fresh start feels as good as time as any to share the first blog piece that I’ve written for years.

Lots of teachers that work with leaders that blame individual teachers for poor results are anxious during the summer holiday.

The environment in which teachers work has a significant impact on results.

I'm with Mark on this.

Schools (to varying degrees of success) do (try to) teach critical evaluation.

If the claim is this is the solution, nothing will change. We also need to think about how to change adults.
My concern is schools have been trying to do this for decades. This is only meaningful if it moves beyond saying to do it and towards guidance on how to do it better.
"Get schools to teach X" can end up being a useful way of avoiding meaningful societal change.
