vasilopita is a cake or bread baked on new years day and has a coin hidden and baked inside. in greek tradition, we cut the cake into slices for everyone in the family + a slice for the house, and whoevers slice has the coin, gets good luck for the year!

Happy New Year, everyone! Καλή Πρωτοχρονιά! We had the Vasilopita (Greek New Year’s Cake). It was delicious! My mom did an awesome job! I didn't get the coin, my younger brother did. We also celebrated my other brother’s Names Day. I hope 2026 will be a happy and healthy year!

I'm not a cook, but I LOVE to bake. I don't do it as much anymore but it's still fun. I've never made vasilopita (or much of any greek desserts)

I hardly ever bake, so when I do I usually pull out the Designated Baking Accoutrements! But I think I've made vasilopita more times in my life than every other dessert combined XD

I baked a vasilopita (Greek New Years Cake). I left out the coin (choking hazard!) and used a bundt instead of a 10" cake pan. I hope it will taste good, and I hope you all have a wonderful and prosperous 2026 (with cake). #vasilopita #bakedbyme #happynewyear
