This cave is known for its blue walls, created as the weight of the glacier squeezes out air bubbles from the ice.
Parts of Vatnajokull contain ice that is thousands of years old.

Fjallsjökull (Iceland) towers more than 6,000 ft above the surrounding landscape and is one of the dozens of glaciers that make up Vatnajökull, Europe's second largest ice cap. Seven volcanoes reside beneath the ice, leading to occasional subglacial eruptions and jökulhlaups.

Weight's less of an issue because I'm using the cart and will only have to pull it onto my back for river crossings
I'm staying further over from Vatnajökull to avoid the bigger melt water rivers.
I have these real Gucci boot dryers but the bags in them need heat to dry them so Yay! to papers.

Een bijzonder stukje #IJsland: vanaf de zandvlakte Skeiðarársandur kijk je tegen meerdere gletsjertongen aan. Allen zijn ze onderdeel van de Vatnajökull. Deze #gletsjer is de grootste van Europa en ongeveer zo groot als Noord-Holland, Zuid-Holland en Utrecht bij elkaar.
De bergen en gletsjers vanaf de zandvlaktes. De Svinafellsgletsjer: hier kun je gemakkelijk een veilig dicht bij het ijs komen. Het pad naar de Skaftafellsgletsjer toe, met adembenemend uitzicht op de bergen waarop de Vatnajökull ligt. De Skaftafellsgletsjer: vanaf het infocentrum en de parkeerplaats loop je er in 20-30 minuten naartoe. In het hoogseizoen kan het hier druk zijn.
