Sure, this is the mean T for an ensemble of ten stations ‘near’ Norwich (where I am).

While it’s very pretty, and you can extract quite a lot of meaning from it, you can solve the continuity problem without 3D modelling. You just do what KNMI’s Climate Explorer does, and either extend to show another half-year, or have a second plot running July to June.

🍩 What if climate looked like a donut? 🌍
Here’s a bunch of cities turned into a sweet dataviz experiment.

🟡 → comfy zone
🔴 → hot
🔵 → cold

Why a donut? Let me explain 👇

Over on the Other Place I would occasionally put this thread together, most recently during lockdown, four years ago in fact, and I realised I'd not done it here. So, bear with, and feel free to mute as this is an epic (genuinely, I’m not sure we won’t reach hitherto non-invoked thread limits tbh).

Bots? They used to have <10 followers so were easy to spot - then a few months ago they all started having a lot of followers. Pretty sure if you scripted it you could show they’re all following each other.

Dear Media:

Halting all aid to Gaza is not "pressuring Hamas." Collective punishment is a war crime. Starvation as a weapon of war is a war crime. Withholding medical care is a war crime. None of this is remotely controversial actually. Israel is doing war crimes, not "pressuring Hamas."

Rachel Reeves confirms government backing for Heathrow third runway - yep, we’re screwed whoever’s in charge.

Is it getting more common, though? I don’t think I’ve EVER had one explode.

Sorry for those triggered, but this is disgraceful: Rape trials collapse as victims abandon cases amid long court delays

There’s also the issue - covered by several of his blog posts - of how you arrive at a global mean temperature: which land series and which sea surface (or near-surface, which is quite different) temperature series?

Today in relatable science: Gulls making a mysterious daily trip that turned out to be to a potato chip factory
A map of flight paths emanating from breeding colony of gulls, with this caption: Early on, LifeWatch noticed something odd. Most gulls were making daily trips to Mouscron, a city on the French border 65 km away. They went to investigate and found the birds bingeing on discarded snacks at the Roger & Roger potato factory.

Also on the new register of MPs' interests: Nigel Farage was paid £40,000 for speaking at a conference in Kuala Lumpur described as "a premier event for global citizens to explore second citizenship, offshore tax strategies, and international investing".
