This weeks Jazzy Thursday was a simple but very shiny affair. Just a couple of coats of the prism polish “help me, I’m feeling”. Liquid silver gorgeousness. Lots of the students playing along which is very wholesome 🥰

This whole obsession with "too many people going to uni" is such a classic example of the parochialism of UK policymaking. No one bothers to ask why the % here is lower than in most other developed countries or whether that might be relevant.

RIP Brian Patten. He featured in one of my favourite poetry books when I was a teen 😢
I always have a greggles brekker on Fridays as a treat. Finally treated myself to their reusable cup. Fits perfectly into the cup holder in my car 🥰
First jazzy Thursday of the season. I did magnetic nail polish from Prism (called “follow the screams”). A bit sparkly, a bit physics-y 🥰 🧲 💅
Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin ✨ figured out what stars are made of ✨ when she was just 25. 🔭🧪
Her PhD thesis basically established the Harvard astro department — at a time when Harvard didn't officially allow woman students.
I wrote this little profile to mark the 100th anniversary of her thesis:

As tradition dictates - the first maths lecture of the season gets the maths dress! 😀
Day 1, week 0 autumn semester! A picture for posterity (and to track the decay 😂)
Ah steps 🥰. My biggest regret at uni was not embracing steps. I was trying to be too cool for school that when steps came on I’d slump back from the union at listen to jazz. Insufferable 😂😂😂😂. #totp
The lightning seeds played my union in my first year (1997) and they defo played three lions more than once 😆)
I mean that cover of night fever by Adam Garcia was trash but I love that boy. He taught us tap at the festival hall when he was in hot shoe shuffle. Absolutely mind blowing for us teen tappers! 👯♀️👯♀️👯♀️👯♀️
Watching TOTP and giggling because Mick Hucknall sang “I get blown all around the world” 😂😱
Yes I’m a giant baby but the new Sylvanian family range at uniqlo is 🥰

Steve Shirley escaped the Holocaust as a child & went on to found one of the earliest software startups. The really impressive part? She employed women programmers who had been pushed out of the workforce after having kids, & allowed them flexible, family friendly, work from home jobs—in the 1960s!
