Balloon Fiesta here in Albuquerque this week. Up at 3am to get to the balloon park, stand in enormous lines, get a cup of coffee, breakfast burrito, stand around in the cold, wait for the balloons to go up. All totally worth it. Then, you want to enjoy your youthful energy and opportunities. Not saying children are not fun, but if you don't have any it can seem very daunting, so lots of people will choose to put it off.

More than half of each year group spend until age 22 at uni, then a quarter go to grad school. If you've got huge student loans to pay off, need to get a high pay stable job, and want to get a home, then having children just feels impossible, even irresponsible.

I don't think this is a hot take but maybe a minority opinion, but most people are choosing to have no kids or fewer kids for reasons outside of money. And some of that is selfishness because having kids is hard (I say that as someone who didn't want more than one cause I ain't built for it lol)
