Working on a group project that is preparing a document. The draft is in Century Schoolbook. First thing the leader of group did is reformat the document into Calibri because "they don't have an appellate lawyer brain" and "Century Schoolbook is too hard to read on a computer screen." 😶

Oldest daughter at UGA is studying for her quiz in politics. She’s working with her younger sister to make sure the study guide she created is correct. They are debating questions like what did the Bakke decision do? Is the right to counsel found in the 1st amendment? I’m just sitting here. Silent.

If this passes, does this mean that Midnight Yell at Texas A&M would be banned?

Bold move by Texas to say that the First Amendment only applies during daylight hours.
We’re not exaggerating. SB 2972 would require public universities in Texas to adopt policies prohibiting “engaging in expressive activities on campus between the hours of 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.” Expressive activity includes “any speech or expressive conduct” protected by the First Amendment or Texas Constitution.

Can you use something other than a period to end a sentence in an appellate brief? I'm not talking about a petition or response or motion but the actual merits brief.

I'm two pages in to this brief I'm reviewing and I've already encountered a ? and a ! intentionally used.

You still had at least 5 more minutes to revise something. Or undo a change you had been agonizing over.

Thank you for spreading some joy.

We need to return to posts featuring homemade baking accomplishments and crochet creations. I found my lapel pin while cleaning this weekend. My mugs are still on my desk.

I approved for AJEI2025. Looking forward to visiting balmy Minneapolis....in November. Hope to see friends.

@darthbluesky.bsky.social and pocket friends - please give special snuggles and treats to your fur friends tonight. Simon crossed the rainbow bridge today. Adopted 10 years ago from a local shelter but a purebred lover. I miss him terribly.

What good is it to restore from back up and transfer your data from your old phone if every website is requiring you to reset your password and create a new one?

Molly was a very good girl and brought smiles and laughter to many of your pocket friends. Thank you for sharing her with us and allowing us to lift you up in this time of loss.

"The Breakfast Club" opens with a David Bowie quote from his song "Changes." The quote reads: "And these children that you spit on as they try to change their worlds are immune to your consultations. They're quite aware of what they're going through...."

So we sell the SDGa courthouses in Dublin, Statesboro, and Savannah but keep the ones in Augusta and Brunswick. That will make federal court operations efficient! Same for the ones in Rome and Atlanta, but keep Newnan and Gainesville in the NDGa.

GA HB 65 (www.legis.ga.gov/legislation/...) will make "potlikka" the official dipping sauce of cornbread. Maybe this will get me accused of being a Yankee - I never knew that cornbread needed a dipping sauce. Some might chose to dip cornbread in butter but that's between them and their doctor

Dear Manager,

This week I:

1. Heard the ocean call
2. Trafficked Marijuana, but spent all the proceeds recklessly
3. Went on a two week bender, passed out, and rallied
4. Planned a fishing trip
5. Pursued relationships with younger women without reaching lasting success

I'm just a victim of fate.

Happened at the state level in a criminal appeal. Supreme Court appointed me to argue in defense of the lower court’s ruling since the DA claimed to no longer have adverse interests to the defense. Three tables at oral argument and each of us had a hot bench for different reasons.

It’s an example of Georgia once again leading the way in the protection of citizens’ rights. Several others in the thread had mentioned other states and I thought I might show how Georiga confronted the issue raised by the OP. And the plain meaning of the text is very clear to law enforcement.
