An important message from the ABA:

"We urge every attorney to join us and insist that our government, a government of the people, follow the law. It is part of the oath we took when we became lawyers. Whatever your political party ... change must be made in the right way. Americans expect no less."

It has been three weeks since Inauguration Day. Most Americans recognize that newly elected leaders bring change. That is expected. But most Americans also expect that changes will take place in accor...

I ran @USAID health programs for the last 3 years. Trump’s 90 day Stop Work Order on foreign assistance does serious damage to the world and the US. Examples:🧵

New: Trump officials have paused all external communications at health agencies like CDC, FDA, NIH.

No health alerts and the famed MMWRs; no updates to key websites or social media posts.

And no indication how long the pause will last.

In @jama.com: Skrmetti is about whether SCOTUS will allow politicians to attack minority groups & ban disfavored health care/treatments for political reasons. Using fraudulent “experts” & studies after the fact means the implications are broad & put all care at risk

Define region? This is a state law thing, and there’s great state by state variability in laws and enforcement of vaccine requirements. That said, the NYT piece discusses the rise of intrastate clusters of exemptions, a concern I first wrote about over 20 years ago core.ac.uk/reader/46959...

If you’re looking at that chart and saying “West Virginia?” They not only have limited exemption qualifications (no philosophical or religious exemptions), they also have a physician who works for the state health department that reviews exemption requests.

Agreed, and it’s a well written article. In addition to access issues (an increasing concern), it seems undeniable that: shots have become a marker of parent identity/community affiliation; trust in science & professional guidance has dropped; & more people are pursuing use of broader exemptions.

FDA's new proposed rule on front-of-package nutrition labeling has been many years in the making and will have very significant public health benefits. If the new admin is serious about healthy nutrition, they push this through to finalization. www.fda.gov/news-events/...

This op-ed in @nytimes.com by @pauloffit.bsky.social is an absolute must-read. In it, Dr. Offit writes, "I’m an actual vaccine skeptic. In fact, everyone who serves with me on the Food and Drug Administration’s vaccine advisory committee is a vaccine skeptic."

Also weaponizing the “health liberty” philosophy, just like the rich and poor alike are free to sleep under bridges. His “what you’re surrounded by” is doing some heavy lifting there.
