In recent years, policymakers have made pledges for huge tree-planting projects a cornerstone for meeting national carbon reduction goals, but failed to cut fossil fuel emissions.

But a new study shows the carbon sequestration estimates made for those forestation projects may be wildly optimistic.
There’s far less land available for reforestation than we think, study finds
Josep “Pep” Canadell, executive director of the Global Carbon Project, says he believes countries large and small need to think twice before pledging to collectively plant billions of trees as a…

Shout out to my Pacific colleagues from the University of the South Pacific who compared microplastics in ark clams (kaikoso) in the 1980s vs. 2023/24. They found that kaikoso from recent years had more microplastics, and contained more different types.

Always stoked to see one of my pictures on the cover of a publication, yet this one confronts a poignant reality in our industry and region.
I'm thankful to SPC not only for portraying one of my favourite pictures, but also for interviewing me for this research.

As climate change escalates, intense storms are becoming more common in the tropics and elsewhere, resulting in a variety of forest impacts.

Those effects are generating concern among researchers over potentially diminished carbon storage and altered forest composition.
