Sad news - oral historian Selma Leydesdorff has died after a long illness. I always appreciated our interactions over the years, most recently as a contributor to her forthcoming Handbook on Global Oral History. Sending my very best to her friends and family.

Great write up from @charlielynch.bsky.social in The National yesterday covering the upcoming 30th Anniversary of the Scottish Oral History Centre. My brilliant advisor and Director of the Centre @ymcfadden.bsky.social front and centre alongside the bona fide legend and founder Arthur McIvor!

The deadline for the June 2026 @deindustrialpol.bsky.social conference is today and that of our summer institute for emerging scholars is next week. Check out our website for details (deindustrialization.org). Here is one of my favourite DePOT photos taken at our 2022 summer institute in Germany:

I totally agree. We need to re-centre corporations.

We're delighted to bring you this is a bold intervention from Kristoffer Edelgaard Christensen & Søren Ivarsson: "Global Capitalist Assemblages: A Historiographical Appraisal of Multinational Enterprise in the Global South." Abstract here, link in the next post. We hope it finds a wide readership.

We need all levels of government to immediately fix #cdnpse. Our universities & colleges are struggling in Ontario because we have had little vision. Both provincial & federal policies have inflicted harm. These cuts at Algoma are devastating. www.ctvnews.ca/northern-ont... #onpoli #cdnpoli

I've been researching Singapore's early (1950s-1970s) labour history as part of a wider study on US capital flight. Not recognized here is the link between the union movement and Singapore's People's Action Party which has been in power since 1959.

Glad to see that the Canadian government has suspended the clawback (imposed by Mulroney in the 80s) of displaced workers' severance pay. Now let's make this change permanent - it is fundamentally unfair!

Very much enjoyed interviewing Peter Katadotis with Eric Shragge this afternoon about his activist life in 1970s Montreal. Inspired by Saul Alinsky, who once spoke in the city, Peter was a key figure in the Parallel Institute, welfare rights campaigning, the Company of Young Canadians and the NFB.
