Creating habitat and home for nature from industrial sand and gravel extraction. It has been an amazing transformation over the years with more and more birdlife using the wetlands, even a pair of nesting Bitterns! @northcavewet.bsky.social @yorkswildlife.bsky.social
It has 33 times more emmisions than coal and on on transport will give off a significant amount of emmison contributing to global warming..
Its one if the worst developments the transport of LNG has ten times more emmisions than pipeline gas.
4. Liquefied fossil gas has higher emissions than coal.
It's a purely cynical scheme, approved by the Tories, but adopted in its entirety by Labour, which meets two political needs at once: appeasing the fossil fuel industry and justifying the Tees Freeport development: another outrageous rip-off.
The sad saga of the Hen Harrier continues. A red listed bird is persecuted so that people can shoot grouse for fun and DEFRA continue to be impotent when it comes to dealing with this wildlfe crime.

When four breeding male Hen Harriers suspiciously disappeared from nests in May, two from RSPB Geltsdale and two from the Forest of Bowland, it was clear the females would struggle to raise their chicks alone.

The odds were bleak.
From yesterday, from my wild garden, a few snippets. This weeks rain has refreshed the area some of the Trefoil is blooming again. Common Blue Butterfly, bees on Knapweed and the lovely lacy flower of Wild Carrot.

I think most people would prefer water companies to be renationalised again. They have shown themsleves to be greedy awarding themsleves with fat bonuses while taking many shortcuts. This Labour government is not brave enough to take on corporate greed or tackle bad governance & management.
It's performative. If Steve Reed were really "furious" about water bills, he wouldn't have ruled out renationalisation, or forbidden the Independent Water Commission to recommend it. He enables the filthiest, most parasitic capital to defeat the public interest.

Environment secretary ‘furious’ about England and Wales water bills
Steve Reed says he is unable to rule out further above-inflation rises and any decision would be up to regulators

This is why our community is fighting to save wild sprat, and will never give up.

They're the crucial bedrock on which entire natural ecosystems are built.
Breakfast! Lots of food coming in for hungry Pufflings on the Isle of May…the chick of this parent is being well fed! A combination of Sandeels and a large sprat
That is such a valid point and it seems that no protest or words cristising the horror that is happening in Gaza are allowed at the moment. The is such a mess.

Incredibly important point.
It is also reprehensible for the manner in which it has diluted the seriousness of terrorism, as a concept and a legal designation. If you want to pursue Palestine Action for criminal damage then go right ahead. But they are not terrorists under any normal definition of the word.

Yesterday’s amendments to the Planning and Infrastructure Bill are a small step in the right direction but there are fundamental flaws at its heart, which still amount to environmental regression and #CashToTrash

An unusual sighting this morning, in between the showers was this female Common blue, the 3rd different individual seen this month.
The female do not move much, hence it is the males who are normally seen
A way to engage local communities by taking a regeneerative approach to the economy and planning dor that city. There are some big cities already doing this eg Barcelona, Mexico and Glasgow. Ths UK needs some braver politicians in this country to do this instead of same old same old..
A little town in Sweden - Tomelilla - is pioneering what it means to put Doughnut Economics into practice. This could well become inspiration to many towns and villages seeking to create a different kind of future... @doughnuteconomics.bsky.social www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Let's talk about these two department store owners: brother and sister Louis Bamberger and Caroline Bamberger Fuld. From Newark, New Jersey.

They are random people, basically. But in the late 1920s, with fascism taking over Europe, they made a choice that profoundly changed the world: 🧵

When excellent MPs stand up for what’s right and then get suspended by their party we should be very worried. Chris Hinchliff has been a staunch defender of nature and is far closer to the public view than the prime minster. Such arrogance 😡. Great quote here from Craig Bennett, agree 💯 .
My husband just found this near one our drain covers outside. Have no idea how it got there. My I Phone identity info says it’s a Smooth Newt! Anyone agree? @yorkswildlife.bsky.social ?
