The GOP is not "good at messaging." The president just shared a meme of him pooping on people from a fighter jet. There's inconsistent messaging throughout the GOP's platform.

What the modern GOP is good at, is delivering on the core promise: "We will hurt the people that you want us to hurt."

The reason for this is that this class of people has internalized the idea of conservatives as the American Volk, an idea downstream of the senate and EC giving them more power than their numbers that has somehow become a quasi spiritual belief about the nature of the country

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.

Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

Right. I saw a Latino man in a work truck with a little Mexican flag on the dash moved almost to tears waving & honking to everyone. It's not fucking "performative" to him.

As a Jew, it'd have meant the world to me to see images like this from Germany 1934. And it might have changed the outcome.

Okay new idea for a library service: leave a hobby take a hobby. When people get bored with a hobby they can come and leave their supplies and books and half-finished things, and exchange them for someone else’s supplies and books and half-finished things. Hobby swap.

I love how they so pointedly highlight the complete absurdity of what is going on. You can show a video of heavily armed military and say its against criminals and then.... oh look at the cute dancing unicorn!!! Whether intentional or not, it points that MAGA's claims are ridiculous.
