The 1st round of the Fairs Cup pitted #Inter against #Newcastle United. A 1-1 draw in the 1st leg at the San Siro set up the 2nd leg nicely at St James' Park at the end of September 1970.

The 1st round of the 1970-71 Fairs Cup pitted #Inter against #Newcastle United. A 1-1 draw in the 1st leg at the San Siro was followed by a 2-0 win for the Magpies in the return. Inter goalkeeper Ludo Vieri was sent off in the 1st half for apparently striking the referee in a melee!
