Well, TRON ARES is the best TRON movie yet... by default! And just as the Disney-produced remake of STREET FIGHTER: THE LEGEND OF CHUN LI (aka ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY) was superior to the “original,” so too is TRON 3 indeed better than HITMAN: AGENT 47.

Gunn and his creative team deliver an absolutely fantastic season that is full of laughs, over the top action and violence along with heartfelt moments. Amazing writing, acting, great new characters, and a major plot line that will impact the entire DCU. This DC fanboy is happy!

PRIMATE is mean as Hell. Like Capital M, MEAN. Grade A Creature Feature that knows what it is from the jump with its Carpenter-esque score and setting. If you think you know whose safe in this, think again.
Great blend of practical & digital chimpanzee effects with stellar gore.

A movie that is visually and audibly amazing but the human element is definitely lacking. Decent performances with Arturo Castro standing out. See it on the biggest loudest screen possible as it’s all about the jaw dropping visuals and pulse pounding NIN score and little else.

Found Chris Stuckmann's debut feature to be incredibly effective and atmospheric. A little bit of LAKE MUNGO, a dash of HEREDITARY, some SILENT HILL. His oscillation between "real", True Crime, and found footage speaks to a real confidence and love of the individual formats.

Scare-a-thon 2025 watch of this truly terrifying and unsettling look at coming to terms with grief. Absolutely disturbing imagery, amazing editing and dread inducing sound design that made my skin crawl. Excellent cast Sally Hawkins gives an unforgettable performance. Grapefruit.

The Rock is genuinely great in THE SMASHING MACHINE (2025), a movie I find pretty fascinating even though (or because?) I have no idea why writer/director Benny Safdie stuck so closely to the style and content of John Hyams' excellent 2002 documentary of the same name.

Looks epic in scope and production value like GOT and HOD but also has a totally different feel and way more humorous than unexpected. Always a fantasy nerd and knights fighting will always get a watch out of me!!

The intensity and exhaustion Scott Adkins is matched by the power and imposing presence of Jess Liaudin captured perfectly by James Nunn and his team. ONE SHOT remains a pinnacle of DTV and a must watch for action movie fans!

Shane Black returns with an incredibly fun heist film set in the world of Parker. Witty dialogue, interesting characters, lots of laughs and plenty of decent violent action. Wahlberg is best he’s been in years but Stanfield and Salazar are true superstars stealing every scene.

We have another exciting and exclusive interview up on Tough Business— this time with acclaimed director Shane Black! @alissadmc.bsky.social and I sat down to chat with him about Play Dirty and his thoughts on Westlake’s work.

"We don't compromise Parker's code" - An Exclusive Interview with Shane Black A week after the highly-anticipated release of Play Dirty, Tough Business had the pleasure of sitting down for a chat on all things Parker with acclaimed director Shane Black. Best known for neo-noir hits like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Nice Guys, Shane spoke about his new film, his thoughts on Parker and Grofield's dynamic, and a glimpse behind-the-scenes of this latest Richard Stark adaptation.

TB: You've talked about discovering Parker at a young age, but what drew you to the books? Do they still hold the same appeal years later?

SB: That's a good question. Thave encountered Parker at various points in my life, and also not just him but the Dortmunder books as well - and the standalones. Westlake tended to be a writer of comic caper novels. My first introduction was The Hot Rock, and then I moved on to Parker. Like I said, I went through the years with him, and the novels don't lose anything at all. They have this sort of readability about them, and the fact that they're each sort of little gems; they're not huge novels, even Butcher's Moon slides past.

The prose holds up, the attitude holds up. These evolved over the years - the first one was written when there were rotary telephones and the last was written when there were handheld Samsungs - so along the way, he managed to proceed with this character without compromising even an iota of the punch and the style and the grace of the books. I refer to Westlake as the mystery writers' mystery writer. It seems to me that if you would ask any of the ones in the business who sold more books than him, they'd say, “yeah, well, he's still the guy that takes you to school, he's still the guy that I go back to when I want the real stuff."

While I’ve since seen SPEED a number of times theatrically, my first time was at home when it premiered on HBO in May of 1995 and nothing could’ve primed me better for it than the old HBO First Look featurette hosted by Dennis Hopper himself.
