The director of student media at Indiana University was fired amidst a dispute between university leadership and editors at the Indiana Daily Student over what content gets printed in the student newspaper.

As director of student media, Jim Rodenbush did not directly oversee or have any say over the content published in the IDS, per a charter between the IDS and the university. But he told IndyStar his firing follows a series of meetings with IU Media School leadership in which it grew increasingly apparent they were expecting him to officially prohibit students from publishing news.

My favorite student-presented historical news article today was from Oct 12, 1850 in Wales, the tale of a woman accused of poisoning her wealthy MIL with an arsenic-laced teapot, for her money. She's ultimately acquitted b/c a key witness, the arsenic seller, was deemed too slutty to be reliable.

A great deal of painful excitement has been created in the vicinity of Ponttryhedfendigsed, South Wales, in consequence of the death of an elderly lady of highly respectable family connexions, named Ann Jones, under circumstances which leave no doubt that her death was produced by the administration of arsenic; and the excitement has been further increased by the apprehension of Mrs. Elizabeth Jones, daughter-in-law of the deceased, on suspicion of being the murderess.
