What has clean energy manufacturing lost since Trump took office?

22 projects in the US, totaling $17.6 billion in investment and 16,105 jobs have slowed.

My students @wellesley.edu and I are tracking it. Details 🧵 below. 🔌💡🔌🚗

They blame pollution but cut the EPA and clean air and water regulations. They blame poor nutrition but cut SNAP and programs to bring local produce to schools. They blame increased screen time while destroying public infrastructure that connects people. All while they take millions off healthcare.

The White House blamed exposure to environmental toxins, poor nutrition and increased screen time for a decline in Americans’ life expectancy Thursday.

This is the sign of a guy in my town running for Board of Selectmen in May. Am I paranoid, or is this sign strongly reminiscent of the Nazi eagle? #localpolitics

I’m gonna say something that is going to sound crazy, but when has that ever stopped me from saying something publicly: there is a way in which the U.S. chucking its position in the world could actually fast-track energy transition. A few things that have me thinking this way 🧵

No, Trump isn't cratering our economy. The entire Republican Party is cratering our economy. The enablers deserve just as much blame as Trump.

The economics associated with weather / climate hazard research, data collection, and building codes should never be considered as a "spend".

This is an investment.

The more we learn will directly translate to saved lives and reduced loss costs because we've proactively taken mitigative action.

part of the political issue is that popular understanding of mid century america is filtered through nostalgia-drenched popular culture, often through stories told from the perspective of a child or, if not a child, an affluent adult

asterisk because i think we look at that period of stability deeply red rose-colored glasses. when people think prosperity they don’t think “family of six sharing a 1200 sq ft home living largely on canned goods and hand me downs” but that was the reality

Why does it FEEL like there is so much less activity? Maybe it's because I'm in purple central Massachusetts territory rather than deep blue Ithaca, NY?🤷‍♀️ But my sentiment also seems to echo what I've heard on podcasts from @thebulwark.bsky.social

4/ When we compare the volume of events so far in 2025 against those in 2017, we estimate that March 2025 was a much more active month than March 2017, from what we were able to observe then and now.
A line chart showing large jumps in the number of protests week over week in March 2025, compared with a steadier stream of protests recorded in March 2017.

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable.

Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes.

Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

Just remember that testing the waters by going after an unsavory or unsympathetic person's civil rights is a tried and true authoritarian tactic.

Media, get this right.
If there's a government shutdown, it will be because the Republicans were unable to craft a bill that could pass, and they refused to pass a bill with any input from Democrats.

It should be very clear to every Senate Democrat that any vote for Cloture will also be considered a vote for the bill.

People aren’t going to be tricked with procedural games.

They know exactly what is going on.

Defend Medicaid.
Vote NO on Cloture.
NO on bill.
