Probably not? The idea of a calculation engine is much much older. Our modern Von Neumann architecture comes from separating the idea of storage and decision-making with a communication layer between them, with the goal of understanding the brain. "Computer as simulation of brain" maybe?

The fundamental computer architecture was designed by a pair of neuroscientists, based on a specific part of cortex. From there, it's been a progressive back and forth of what "computation" means in silica vs. in meat.

If you're a dev looking for a job, it can be hard to get anyone's attention who has hiring power. Your resume gets lost in the noise.

Open source can be a good side channel, but that doesn't mean "build whatever and put it on github". It has to be relevant to someone with hiring authority.

The paper does indeed go into more detail. It's more didactic than novel, but I found their explanations very helpful in crystallizing my own internal model.
