and just the idea that a romance novel where a queer male main character, written by a woman, given full interiority, even if it's the horniest, tropiest, porniest thing alive, is equivalent to f/f live action porn made by and for straight men on xtube... just no understanding of power relations at.
bananashirt.bsky.social
like... gay men are creating the media they want to engage with! there are gay men writing novels and plays and Nifty.org text-porn and filming live action porn! directing movies & tv! all of this exists! and yr like "ok but the thing that more women than men engage with also needs less women". ???
bananashirt.bsky.social
i saw a "if yr m/m shelf has no m/m written by men i'm judging you" post elsewhere and i just... "this specific type of romance that literally was born out of a slash convention organized by women needs to have less women in it" plus this inability to see that gay men write books! and film porno!

It’s funny how the old media depiction of Nazis was always that they’re evil but dignified gentleman and now they’re openly just like “Hello. I’m the Anime Pedophile”

Now, more than ever, you have to be a weird little pervert who makes art of questionable quality. You need to be driven crazy by the flesh. Because, as we all learned from Cronenberg's The Fly, the computers are not made crazy by the flesh. They can't do it like us.

Al Jazeera is doing videos of the Palestinian releases and they're heart wrenching. One man was detained for over a year and was released to find out that Israel had killed his two kids. The youngest was three. Her birthday would've been on Saturday. He'd made a small bracelet for her in prison.

More than one Berner told me, approvingly, that Bernie was going to be “our Trump,” and insisted that everyone would have to fall in line with his ideas.

They never seemed to understand why I found that menacing.

Yeah, I hold the same set of beliefs I always have, but I no longer ever use “socialist” or “progressive” to describe myself, because “I want republicans to lose” has become strictly a “liberal” position. So that’s my label now.

Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat
bananashirt.bsky.social
i think this stuff comes from:
1. feeling yr group's suffering is being ignored or not ameliorated quickly enough
2. genuinely wanting to point how how A can lead to C and also sort of be C while also not being C
3. social media flattening of nuance
bananashirt.bsky.social
(although that is also a subjective thing; there's the quote about preferring open racists to polite ones that pretend not to be; i think emboldened bigots are worse BUT i'm not the one with (literal) skin in the game)
bananashirt.bsky.social
i think it is more complicated than this.

i think there is value in pointing out how A led to B led to C, but also how if you dig deep enough under A, or follow A's beliefs to their logical conclusions, A really is C

WHILE ALSO recognizing that A is still preferable

It’s funny how black people are expected to reach across the aisle to voters like these, while no one ever expects them to reach across the aisle to black people. Amazing who gets to be human, and who doesn’t.

POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

When I say "they've already lost," I don't mean to make light of the tremendous, tremendous atrocities occurring and the tremendous battle we all need to fight. But in terms of hiding the evidence and memory of said atrocities? They've lost that one, thoroughly.

Saleh's body is barely cold and Instagram has already deleted his account, where he documented Israeli war crimes. They're trying so hard to erase us and the irony is they've already lost.
