I believe O'Connor had planned on retiring after the 2000 election. Her husband had alzheimers. Bush v Gore made her stay for another term so she didn't look like she was picking her replacement. But it could have played out the same way it did.

Not all leftists, of course, but many of the ones you encounter online are people who grew up in right wing households. They realized they held a left-identified belief—almost always either LGBT rights or healthcare—but rethought none of their other priors.

Also, Clinton tried to bring universal healthcare and voters rejected it and gave Republicans power. He just triagulated after that. Again, voters had the power and they gave it to Republicans and people are mad that Clinton didn't blow up the country over it.

They took it from Sanders campaign in 2016 when he claimed the primary was rigged against him. Still hasn't explained how the DNC managed to rig 50 independent state elections to give Clinton millions of more voters.
