The Albanese govt’s first term was the second most secretive on record.

Rather than changing their ways, they’re doubling down and tightening our FOI system to make it even harder to get information. Not a single expert or member of parliament outside of the Labor party has backed their new bill.

Yesterday I was told that the class I’m scheduled to teach this month, Confronting Oppression & Injustice, is no longer part of our curriculum. This is a required class yet there was no discussion, no faculty vote, just an email saying the class no longer exists. This is what it’s like in Texas now.

It seems safe to say the prolific composer, producer, and saxophonist Joseph Shabason is the only person on Earth who played on the latest albums by both Destroyer and Miley Cyrus

Plus the catchiest song Dry Cleaning have ever made, a grown-and-sexy house-pop situation, and more.

The US sub-prime mortgage sector was not particularly large in 2008. That didn’t stop a disorderly unwinding spilling over to cause huge damage in the rest of the economy

in 2011, the president of antifa hired me to give fashion consultancy to the organization. i recommended everyone wear navy suits with tan shoes, dress sneakers, and golf polos with slim chinos. if you arrested everyone today wearing these things, you'd destroy antifa

I don't think there's any better example of leopards eating faces than the Lebanese immigrant who opened a Trump-themed burger restaurant and then got arrested by ICE.

People think the first thing Gutenberg printed was the Bible. This is false. The first things he printed were a political prophecy, propaganda about the Turks’ threat to Christendom, & a popular school text. If you want a parallel to AI, that’s it: making $ from conspiracies, racism, & school slop.

I think the core question now regarding the AI bubble is: what's the catalyst?

If it's broader acceptance that revenues can't match investment, that might still be some way off

However, that's not usually how these crises unfold...

I did not realise that arms manufacturers sponsored the National Press Club until this story came out but jfc how compromised can you be
donnabenenson.bsky.social
"...the NPC’s list of sponsors reveals the problem. Among them are no less than ten firms with links to the arms industry that is profiting from Israel’s destruction of Gaza, including four of the very largest defence manufacturers in the world – BAE, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin and Thales."

Censorship by any other name.
The National Press Club cancelled a speaker, Chris Hedges, who planned to address the mass killing of journalists in Gaza. The mainstream press didn’t report it.
