My brother gets viscerally angry with me if I don't watch TV shows in a timely fashion.

eg I am about 6 seasons behind in Taskmaster and he is FURIOUS.

Gives the government cover to send Brereton to the knackery, revisit public hearings procedures, update prioritisation of investigative areas etc.

Simple low hanging fruit stuff with no downsides.

Reforming the NACC is some low hanging fruit shit. The simple political lines that "We created the first national corruption commission, it's done a god job, but we've seen where the rubber meets the road that it needs to be more robust. <insert actual reform>" Vote winner with easy Senate passage.

Here's the thing, the whole point of 'sponsoring' these things is you don't have to directly lobby or strong-arm, the appeasement becomes tacit - see also the National Press Club quietly slurping cash from multiple weapons companies and fossil fuel climate crims
The Centre for Public Integrity’s executive director, Catherine Williams, said the club offered “an invaluable opportunity for monied interests to build relationships with members of parliament and their staff”.

“Let’s be real about it: if the access isn’t perceived to be valuable, why is it sold as a benefit of membership?” Williams said.

RWA’s chief executive Kai Cantwell said it did not use the club to lobby politicians.

“RWA’s work on regulation and harm reduction happens through the proper parliamentary and regulatory processes, not on the sporting field,” Kantwell said.

“Like other industries, we occasionally take part simply to enjoy exercise and socialising – something important for all Australians, particularly in high-pressure roles.”

The right employs a two-track strategy to win the war of persuasion: to liberal audiences that hate your ideas, push the “open inquiry, everyone’s voice must be heard” to work your way in, but to conservative audiences do whatever is necessary to prohibit liberal views.

How we ‘fess up when we mess up shows who we are. Pay it all back Deloitte. And apologise. Give yrsrlf some procurement teeth Labor: the capability to ban for poor behaviour, commensurate with the misdemeanour, up to 5 yrs.

The different exhibitions at the AWM have different sentiments, like tree rings or rock layers. You start in the "Lest We Forget" room and exit through the "Sign Up Today" gallery (feat. B Roberts-Smith)

I did know that about the fuckin War Memorial though, which is a complete travesty of the reason the AWM was established

I did not realise that arms manufacturers sponsored the National Press Club until this story came out but jfc how compromised can you be
donnabenenson.bsky.social
"...the NPC’s list of sponsors reveals the problem. Among them are no less than ten firms with links to the arms industry that is profiting from Israel’s destruction of Gaza, including four of the very largest defence manufacturers in the world – BAE, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin and Thales."

New:
Censorship by any other name.
The National Press Club cancelled a speaker, Chris Hedges, who planned to address the mass killing of journalists in Gaza. The mainstream press didn’t report it.

Another reminder - because far too many people don't seem to know it - this guy tried to *PREVENT* war crimes investigations. The only whistle he tried to blow was his own.

Why some of you held him up as some kind of heroic figure makes my brain bleed.

yes! also if the club is more professional than "a bunch of MPs and staff having a kick" and is actually organised by a corporation run by someone who is not an MP or Parliamentary staff, then it deserves scrutiny
