The new Joe Robbie Stadium had not even been open 3 months back in 1987 but some folks were already fed up with the patience needed to get there, according to this letter to the Miami Herald from a Hollywood resident.

Bottleneck to JRS

To The Editor:

There was a slight breeze, but it was still hot. The Earth was still moving, but we were not. There was no cause for motion sickness in our car — it wasn’t moving.

The eight-mile drive from my house to Joe Robbie Stadium (JRS) took half of the time it takes to run a marathon. That’s definitely a problem that may result in fewer fans attending the games. We took the turnpike, the “fastest-moving road in Florida.” But Sunday traffic stood still. Unfortunate drivers who weren’t even going to the game were snagged by the congestion.

JRS may be the “tragic hero” of sports stadia. A sleek, high-tech, beautiful, structure with a tragic flaw — inadequate accessibility. The traffic engineers were as incompetent as the stadium designers were competent. Neither the toll booths nor the entrances can handle the blitz of traffic expected to enter the stadium each week.

It’s a good thing that the JRS is the only show in town, because if it weren’t, it might have ended up like a tragic hero: dead.

10 years ago almost to the day, Fort Collins voted out of SB152 so they could study municipal broadband. 8 years ago, Fort Collins voted to start their municipal broadband network. Today, Fort Collins Connexion has over 23,000 customers with symmetric gigabit or faster fiber Internet connections!

I used to gripe about *somebody* putting big pots on the bottom rack, thereby blocking pretty much everything on the top rack from getting sprayed clean.

The AT&T installer ran a fiber optic tap off the nearest pole about 100 feet away, then installed a mid-span hook to give it a right angle turn to my eaves and down to the hole in the wall. Fiber to the home! Loving it (so far).
