I think @jfallows.bsky.social is right. The college papers are killing it on the stories that affect them the most.

The Virginia Senate just told UVA it’s not getting state funding if it accepts the compact since UVA exists to serve Virginia, its residents, & their interests—not be a tool of the federal govt. Scoop from our student newspaper, who’ve been doing vital reporting www.cavalierdaily.com/article/2025...

it’s said all the time but I think we should continue to hammer home how insane it is that we got dead-eyed bros trying to sell us robots that will free us from the supposedly cruel burden of “creative careers” instead of the actual cruel burden of “doing menial household chores”

EXCLUSIVE — DHS Acting General Counsel sent out a memo Wednesday to all Federal Protective Service staff (the sub-agency that guards federal buildings) letting officers know they could take any action necessary "in the vicinity" federal property to protect themselves.

The Handbasket reports:
DHS top lawyer says 'no legal barrier' to actions officers can take to defend federal property
In a memo obtained exclusively by The Handbasket, Federal Protective Service (FPS) officers were given free rein.

Oh, Celeste, I am sorry. I had the good fortune to speak to your Mom at the Ohioana awards and she seemed sweet and kind and very proud of you.
And steely!

Sen. Roger Marshall: "October 18 is when the protest gets here. This will be a Soros paid-for protest for his professional protesters. The agitators show up. We'll have to get the National Guard out. Hopefully it will be peaceful. I doubt it."

"Wealthy New Yorkers who take the bus" might be the most astounding seven words any NYC mayoral candidate has ever spoken.

[Me, a poor, on the subway, glowering jealously at all those fat cat, fancy pants rich people on the public bus]
Andrew Cuomo tweet:

@ZohranKMamdani's "plan" provides no relief for working families who take the subway, and unnecessary benefits to wealthy New Yorkers who take the bus and can afford the fare.

I focus on working families, while @ZohranKMamdani the mansion boy focuses on helping the rich.

This, right here: We live in a time in which the dominant class, including tech lords, have no values other than profit and domination. What "values" will AI have?

It's true! Springsteen and Dylan have biopics! Where is Cash's biopic? I mean yes, there is a very famous one and it won an Academy Award but nevertheless, my point stands, notwithstanding the fact that it does not, is what I'm trying to say.

It needs to be said: Factually there is zero evidence of rebellion or insurrection in any American city. It's not possible for journalists to portray this as a credible assertion. I say this as someone who has spent time recently in Chicago, Washington DC and Portland.

Donald Trump is not a king — and his administration is not above the law.

Today, the court confirmed what we all know: there is no credible evidence of a rebellion in the state of Illinois.

And no place for the National Guard in the streets of American cities like Chicago.

A remarkable story: Omar Yaghi, born a refugee in Jordan, came to America as a teen to attend community college and later earned a Ph.D. and the 2025 Nobel Prize in chemistry. Immigrants have won 40% of the U.S. Nobel Prizes in science since 2000. @mclem.org

I've been wondering why Dominion Voting Systems suddenly reached settlements with Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, and One America News.

Turns out, it's been purchased by a Republican-owned election tech firm that insisted on it, per Axios.
