I'm so glad my kids grew up in southern california and don't have the same ingrained biases I grew up with in rural Illinois. They have called me out at times and taught me so much about my own bias.

A lot of white people are born, raised, and live their whole life in areas that are 99% white. Having grown up that way, those of us who aren't still that way are the ones who read books, got a higher education, and/or moved to a less whites only area. That is my observation from my experience.

I was informed today that a lot of special needs / disabled girls and women are put on birth control by family members because they are at risk for being raped by men. That thought never even crossed my mind, that is so vile.
