This is no longer the case, and the Taoiseach is now on his way to Dublin Castle for the declaration
The Taoiseach is not coming to Dublin Castle for the official declaration of Catherine Connolly's victory in the presidential election.

Whether intended or not, it's going to look very confrontational for the head of government NOT to be there to congratulate the new head of state

So good to get close ups of a Wheatear in Donegal.

Catherine Connolly’s visit to us in Dublin-Rathdown will live long in our memory💚Presidential from the get-go! People, especially young people flocked to this positive, visionary campaign. Cannot wait to see what they will do next. #grassrootsled

In fairness Heather Humphreys gave a gracious concession speech, congratulating Catherine Connolly, and wishing her well as President. In a democracy the losing side accepting the outcome is vital. #aras25

It's great that the Left combined for this election and of course kudos to the Soc Dems/Shinners/PBP but just to say Catherine Connolly put herself forward for this, as in Independent, long before she had that support - we shouldn't forget that. It was a brave thing to do. #aras25

Connolly's younger volunteers and organisers are fantastic and deserve huge credit.

Smart, optimistic, strategic, disciplined, tapped into culture, positive message-bearers, excellent communicators.

It's so great to see people putting their energy into a movement that expresses hope. 🇮🇪

Even the Healy Rae machine (they canvassed for Humphreys) is vulnerable to left unity. Final tally in Kerry has Catherine Connolly on 62% #aras25 #speirgorm #ConnollywillbePresident
I’m so excited Joe. My first time doing the tally. What a buzz! We are all so delighted for Catherine and for Ireland 💚

“In spite of all the challenges we face, there remains within the Irish people a profound and unyielding commitment to seeing beyond the self to seeing the ‘other’ as friend.”

I wonder will Catherine Connollys landslide show politicians that there's no massive constituency for fox hunting or IFA style agriculture
(it won't and we will still be forced to have policies made for an incredibly small amount of landowners)

Turns out voting for Catherine Connolly is a rural pursuit.

🗳️ Thank you to everyone who joined our campaign, those who there from the very beginning, to those that came out today to vote. Go raibh míle maith agaibh.

Pearse Doherty TD “has never seen an election where a candidate is polling just over 80% of the vote".

Catherine Connolly has "captured the minds and hearts" of people in Donegal.

"It's a phenomenal result here in Donegal.”

(Did I mention that I am a Donegal-Cork blend?) #Áras25
Thanks Seán Radcliffe from TCD Soc Dems. Amazing number cruncher!
