Not because it's cruel to them, but because it perpetuates the harmful idea that innate physical appearance has anything to do with one's character / beliefs / actions.

Note to self, never buy refurbished controllers from GameStop ever again. I finally decided to open up the Xbox controller I got from them years ago and it was really dirty internally while looking clean on the outside. So turns out I don't hate Xbox controllers, GameStop just gave me a shit one.

Its Steam Next Fest week! I'll be streaming all week around 8 PM EST (hopefully!) various demos from this month's Next Fest! I'll have friends this time around on call, so its bound to be a good time!

Also I will be avoiding any game demo that uses AI during its development.

Follow up on that AI in game dev post:
I've seen many interesting demos every Steam Next Fest that I've had to pass on due to Gen AI being used in some parts of development. Even if it will be removed on release, I'd rather see jank temporary assets/no voice acting than seeing AI placeholders.

Whenever indie devs use AI, it hurts their sales potential and retention because it’s a 🚩red flag for generalized unprofessionalism and cut corners.

Getting real art from a pro will make you look like a pro.

If you're a solo dev/small indie team looking for art or logos please don't turn to genAI. I would honestly rather folks reach out to a designer and offer like rev share alongside a smaller up front cost to get something made by a person.
