a fun thing to consider is that China, and probably Russia, almost certainly have the ability to post from the president's Truth Social account. they just know that they only get to use that *once*.
I think the White House is probably absolutely riddled with spies and listening devices and also they're getting exactly as much actionable intelligence as you'd get from browsing Truth Social.

A lot of people are pretty freaked out by the current political state of affairs and carrying on because they don't know what else to do, except out one foot in front of the other.

And I think a lot of Very Online folks mistake that for "normie" indifference

We are in such desperate need of work like this right now: reminders that despite the current shit show, you always have options. And that those options don’t have to be stressful or distressing. People can order abortion pills to have on hand just in case—to take care of themselves and each other.
I don't talk much about work here, but this morning I listened to The Daily and it enraged me so much. Here's the thing: I once oversaw a project where an outside party spent a large amount of money to rehabilitate a historic property belonging to the federal government. 1/x

As a Libro.fm acolyte, it is my duty to inform you that audio that's purchased from your favorite indie bookseller sounds better and is also more emotionally fulfilling than the same audio purchased from a megacorp that's assisting the authoritarian federal regime.

The New York Times publishes a handy guide to which federal forces are terrorizing us at any moment. This is America, 2025.

A president who can tear down 1/3 of the White House can tear down the entire White House. A president who can steal $230M from the treasury can steal $1T from the Treasury. We have both legalized and tolerated Trump’s crimes, so they will only get bigger.
As soon as I get my new cellphone account set up, I will be cancelling my T-Mobile account, which I have had for 20 years. And I will tell them why.
I imagine that Trump, raising money from these corporations, didn't TELL them that he was going to go all 9/11 on the People's House; we already know he lied about damage to the existing building. That's a boycott opportunity. Brands despise association with controversy.

The corporations and donors footing the bill for Trump’s new White House ballroom
Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Google and Meta are just some of the corporate sponsors for the $300 million grand hall in the gilded style of the president’s Mar-a-Lago club.

They would have documented the building, salvaged the historic woodwork and hardware, conducted an asbestos survey and notified the local Air district, enforced worker safety rules, and put out public notices about the work. None of this was done, and the nation has lost by it. 16/end
One last note: YES I know NHPA doesn't apply to the White House. But it is still subject to oversight, and general principals regarding historic preservation and environmental compliance would have been observed in any other administration. 15/x
Apparently the substance of why the rules are how they are just doesn't matter anymore. It doesn't matter that the standards for demolition of such a significant building were ignored, nor that all the ethics rules were broken, it's just a political question. 14/x
I had hoped NYT would at least bring on one of the many former NPS staff familiar with the requirements for doing work at the White House, or one of the many ethics lawyers who have been laid off. But it was more important to talk about how Democrats are angry and Republicans complacent. 13/x
AND (worse), not someone who seems to understand anything about federal ethics requirements and why you wouldn't want a bunch of big businesses involved in funding a new structure on the White House campus. 12/x
