I see some other people doing ongoing threads of stuff they listen to or have read; seems like a good thing, share knowledge of good stuff and enjoyment of what’s out there. Here’s something I’ve just finished:

"A good way to learn German is to read children's books to familiarise yourself with basic grammar and vocabulary"

German children's book:
Last one for me today: just before 9 am when the charging stops for the morning. I’ve been hearing cars and a few buses whizzing past, and a couple of times the pedestrians have pushed the crossing button, but this time I only caught two bikes and a scooter in the shot.

It's one where the freaks and lunatics who run these Victorian institutions claim it's necessary preparation for the workplace, at precisely the same time that the workplace for anyone who does actually manage to complete school has moved to "sitting at home in a t-shirt"
Imagine having to sit in prison-like environs for two full days cus your boss didn’t like your hair.

The normalisation of this kind of stuff in our schooling system really should be understood as a national scandal

8:30; a little more traffic again, still always very free flowing.
8:00 am; more regular traffic but all flowing freely, a few pedestrians about. Sometimes people can just cross the road without waiting, other times people have pressed the button for the crossing.

brains are better than AI for a true depth of weird
A few cars, still very light traffic at 7:30. A school day again and today they’re all back, no INSET day that I now of.
Day 2 of anecdata on my bit of the new temporary congestion charge in Oxford. I also had a tradesman appointment yesterday afternoon and took the opportunity to ask him about traffic. He said that within the ring road it was very clear, but that the ring road itself was basically at peak, all day.
Day 2 of #CongestionChargeWatch on Hollow Way. I have heard a few cars but all very free flowing before 7 am.

If anyone wants an already up and running test case for the insanity that already is right to work checks - just ask anyone who works for a university and has the godawful task of trying to pay people for things like one off guest lectures and external examining.
Interesting factlets about Digital ID...

Government is proposing a massive extension of right to work checks, to sweep up not just employees but all individuals providing services otherwise than to consumers. So the whole gig economy and even including eg barristers (shock!)... /1

Public transport often treats bikes as a luxury—or worse a competitor—but without them leaves revenue on the table.

For 25 years, the Dutch have extended the reach of their railways through investments in (300,000) parking spaces and (25,000) shared bikes. The result? A doubling of train ridership.

I lied, one more photo as we approach the cutoff of 9 am. Slightly busier in that I did see one car waiting to pass the van parked on the on street parking (which they shouldn’t actually use until 9:30 am) and a couple of bikes, plus the start of the driving instruction sessions for the day.
Yes, Spires used up a whole lot of INSET days in one go eh!
Some state schools also have Insets, certainly Cheney does
Also I thought I’d try to remember to take photos for the whole of this first week if possible - not that it’s anything more than an indication but still.
I also don’t quite know if the private schools have gone back yet - I assume so but haven’t checked. Spires doesn’t have an INSET day today tho I know Cheney does.
One more, at 8:30 (the charge is only active on our road between 7 am to 9 am and 3 on to 6 pm on weekdays, so this is the last one for the morning).
