🚨 “Good Description” with @annagbusse.bsky.social 🚨

What sets 'good' description apart from 'mere' description?

We develop a framework for evaluating descriptive research, whether we are doing it as scholars or assessing it as readers.

Two main contributions...

There is technically nothing incorrect in this review tho. Everything about Warhammer is highly improbable.

“What did you write in the letter?”

Frog said,"I wrote, ‘Dear Toad, I am glad that you are my best friend.

Your best friend, Frog.'”

My first thought was “wow I hope this guy didn’t give out his name because he could absolutely be charged” and yup, he is correct to stay anonymous.

This man’s account is shocking. His neighbors’ situation is shocking. The entire Chicago raid is shocking.
On the other side was a mom and her 7-year-old daughter, pleading for his help.
"I wasn't planning on letting her stay, but I didn't know what the hell was going on," the man said of his Venezuelan migrant neighbors. But he quickly relented. The little girl was inconsolable and hid under his bed.
"I didn't want them to take her," said the man, who didn't want to be named because he fears he'll be targeted by federal authorities for his actions.
"I gave her my bedroom, and I just told her,
'Just stay there. Don't open, don't, shh, just stay quiet," he recalled telling the mom and daughter as he choked back tears.

Look how quickly the “justification” for deploying military troops to US cities mutated.

Just weeks ago it was, Crime!

Now it’s: hypothetical imagined crimes by Americans peacefully demonstrating in an act of constitutionally sacred dissent.

Sen. Roger Marshall: "October 18 is when the protest gets here. This will be a Soros paid-for protest for his professional protesters. The agitators show up. We'll have to get the National Guard out. Hopefully it will be peaceful. I doubt it."

As it's almost Econ nobel time I usually post a *joke* about how I am looking for someone to do a pencil sketch of my face (for the inevitable announcement) but last year I was inundated with messages from artists and so I won't be doing that again, sorry.

Anyway, I am delighted to annouce

@ryanenos.bsky.social is right to highlight this passage.

As much as this makes "headlines" (in academia), the people to pay attention to are the not-Nobel prize winners.

Because as much as there are forces that will make people want to leave US academia, there are only so many Zurichs.

It might be hard to convey to people outside economics just how seismic this is. The Trump effect has most certainly arrived to US academia.

This terrible administration is trying to destroy America and what makes it great by destroying these experiences, by driving these people - mediocrities like me and exceptional humans like this person - away.

Resist them. They are not entitled to America. They are not "the real America" - we are.

Listening to a podcast about a niche artform - an interview with one of the very best practioners of this artform.

They recount the same story that I and so many American immigrants share:

A lifelong desire to be in the USA. Remembering, years on, the exact date, time, and sensation of arriving.

Frog and Toad were caught in the rain. They ran to Frog’s house.

“I am all wet,” said Toad. “The day is spoiled.”

“Have some tea and cake,” said Frog. “The rain will stop. If you stand near the stove, your clothes will soon be dry.”
Frog and Toad stand in Frog's house, dripping wet. Frog has prepared a nice hot pot of tea for the pair.
