Unless the train does not go at all it‘s not an issue, I can reach the train in Essen in time with other trains from Düsseldorf or Cologne.

In November I‘m travelling from Bxl to Hanover; I booked a Eurostar from Bxl to Essen and an ICE from Essen to H.
Eurostar now wrote that the train to Essen is cancelled due to track works (though I can still book it in their app).

Die letzte Regierung hatte ein Gutachten anfertigen lassen, wie sinnvoll (& legal) die Grenz-Zurückweisungen sind. Die Merz-Regierung will jetzt die Veröffentlichung verhindern. Auch eine Antwort darauf, was da wohl drinstehen dürfte. Merz hatte gerade erst eine „Spirale des Misstrauens“ beklagt.

Glad we agree, I just react allergic to the romantication of slow travel as an answer to the question how we motivate people to utilize flights less. It‘s not gonna work that way.

And there are plenty of things we could implement that we don‘t for train travels in🇪🇺, mainly because of national egos.

The answer here isn‘t to forbid flights and talk about privilege and slow travel, the answer is to work on the affordability and connectivity for train routes as viable alternatives to flight routes like this.

We live in Brussels, my parents in law live in Budapest. We usually fly there, one aspect being that it is significant cheaper, the other that the trains to get there are super unreliable and turn what should be a 14h journey into one…

The house keeper from the philipines saves all year to see her family. But trains and electric zeppelins are not gonna replace her airplane flights to visit family.
