Indeed. The issue is not "Jews are white and Palestinians are brown" the issue is the state of Israel, defined constitutionally as a Jewish state in its political, legal, and social character is as a result explicitly exclusionary and creates 2nd and 3rd tiers of life. It is racial, just arbitrary.

What it means is quite literally that you can, in fact, find people of physical traits you wouldn't expect in almost every ethnic group in the world. There are Saudis who are natural blondes and Finns whose grandparents were all born there who are remarkably swarthy. It just happens.

Oh, for sure, and nor are we. Rather, we think that the reason it's more common with regard to yuri is because of a devaluing of lesbian relationships in society writ large.

On an individual level, we only really think it's a problem if you take this view to yuri, but not straight romance.

The issue isn't that men view lesbian relationships as lesser, but that patriarchal society broadly views lesbian relationships as lesser which effects the views of everyone within it, even lesbians, and you need to do active work to leave that mindset.

A lesbian romance is a cute/sexy thing to look at and admire from afar, something which exists for the enjoyment of others, while straight romance is something more real where you put yourself in the position of one of the two people in the story.

This is definitely an attitude which exists with straight romance stories, but it certainly feels more pervasive when it comes to yuri (and lesbian romance in general) and that feels like an extension of viewing lesbian romance as less "real" than straight romance.

There's a kind of person who reads yuri because they actually enjoy *stories* focused on lesbians. And there's also a kind of person who reads yuri solely to see girls kissing/fucking, and view anything else besides that as set dressing at most.

We're always anxious about being nonbinary even in explicitly trans positive spaces because we just expect a lot of anti-nonbinary bigotry, even from trans allies or other trans people, but it always helps to see other openly nonbinary beings in those spaces.
