Perhaps so. But until the nuclear age and the climate crisis human beings didn't have the tools for their own destruction as a species. It takes a lot longer with bows and arrows.

In a NY Times interview, Ian McEwan discusses his new novel, 'What We Can Know,' which looks back on our time from 2120. He thinks people then will call our era The Derangement: 'We know what to do, but we can't somehow summon the political agreement on doing it or change our selfish behavior.'

DOJ refuses James Comey's discovery requests, turning over a single document in a case where thousands obviously exist. Comey seeks an order, which Bondi will also defy. Then the court will draw the inference from DOJ's noncompliance that the documents show what Comey claims. Dismissal will follow.

Laure Murat's 'Proust, roman familial', which won the Medici non-fiction prize in 2023, is now available in a German translation by Jürgen Ritter. Murat explains how reading Proust helped her come to grips with her own aristocratic roots -- and to her family's rejection of her homosexuality.

I'll post a translation of the entire poem in Comments.

The mayor warned there may be
power and water outages
because of the strikes.

I’m charging devices
