Here's what prosecutors--PROSECUTORS!!!--said last week about why they had not given Sydney Reid video to her alleged assault of an FBI agent.

She's seeking to get her case thrown out before it goes to trial this week.

There can be little doubt that the government failed in its duties, first by failing to collect
contemporaneous statements and other information from the officers from the incident and then
by neglecting to supervise the collection of that information, by relying on the officers’ conclusion
as to what is relevant and not relevant. Still, the government persists in trying to blame the defense.
Even at the hearing, the government deflected blame: “The ambiguity, I think, that arises here is
that we are trying to construct a very mundane incident three months after it happened involving,
I guess for lack of a better word, middle-aged people who just aren't great with technology, just

Definitely not trained to de-escalate so we shouldn't be surprised at the confrontations we are seeing, the level of violence being perpetrated on protestors, or, at some point, more severe outcomes for protestors. The US govt is putting US residents at risk due to their malfeasance

The entire incident is infuriating and terrifying. She’s a Latina woman who was working a service job. On her way home late at night, with her headphones in, she was detained for an hour by masked federal agents who wouldn’t give her their names.

Maria Greeley, 44, had just finished working a double shift at the Beach Bar on Ohio Street
earlier this month when she said she was surrounded by three federal agents who grabbed her, forced her hands behind her back and zip tied her.
Headphones in, Greeley had been focused on getting home to her two dogs for a walk.
Instead, she said she was detained by masked agents who did not answer when she asked for names. They questioned her for an hour, she said.

Chicago Tribune: Greeley, who was born at Illinois Masonic hospital and is adopted, carries a copy of her passport just in case she runs into federal agents.

“I am Latina and I am a service worker,” Greeley said. “I fit the description of what they’re looking for now.”

During the encounter, Greeley said they told her she “doesn’t look like” a Greeley.

“They said this isn’t real, they kept telling me I’m lying, I’m a liar,” Greeley recalled. “I told them to look in the rest of my wallet, I have my credit cards, my insurance.”

Police officers who publicly declare that they’ll quit if a mayoral candidate they dislike wins the election are (1) usually bluffing—sure buddy, toss away that paycheck and pension—and (2) exactly the sort of cops cities would be better off without, ones who don’t see themselves as public servants.

People who say "you can't possibly read everything you cite" are saying a lot about themselves, IMO.

It doesn't have to be a heavy lift. I spend about half an hour a day processing new-to-me papers by organizing them in my reference managers & adding topical tags so I can create bibliographies.

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Taken from a hot air balloon, this photo is one of the first examples of urban aerial photography.

It pre-dates the US Civil War and it was taken more than 40 years before the Wright brothers’ first airplane flight.
